Question When to have a club fitting?

"Club fitting". Sounds......extravagant, luxurious even for a hacker like me, doesn't it?

But do I need one? I'm 5'7" on a good day, over 50 so I'm not real flexible, and my 2 sets of clubs are both off the rack Hogans: steel shafted Apex IIs and graphite shated CFTs, along with the graphite/metal Hogan woods I play with both sets. There is such a big difference in these two sets of irons....which one is closer to "right" for me? I have to admit that I am very inconsistent in my iron swings, somewhat better with my metalwoods.

There is a place here in town that does a "complete fitting session" using a "Golf Achiever Computerized Swing Evaluation" for $110. Is it worth it?

Do you know the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? The porcupine has its' pricks on the outside.

$110 is a bit high. If that includes bending your clubs it is not as bad but I would look around. We charge $45 for the session on the launch monitor and fitting. It takes about 45 minutes and can change your game, or it could tell you that the clubs you have are right for you.
Some places that charge that much use it as a selling tool so be prepared for a sales pitch. Don't get pressured into buying something because he said the machine said it was right.
If you feel they are pressuring you ask to hit some other clubs, if it is all sales they will try to talk you out of hitting something else so you will buy what they want you to buy.

I had mine done after about 4-5 rounds to see for myself if it made a diff. i had to get new grips and 3/4 in added to length and 1* flat. I dont know how i played with my old set not fitted. Although i do wish i would have left my wegdes alone exept for being bent. It did cost me $240 for the whole thing but i did go with high doller grips.

How do they add length? Do they have to replace the shafts?

With tha Apex IIs, I wouldn't mind having the shafts replaced if needed, but with the CFTs, all those graphite shafts could get a little expensive, also the current ones are so pretty.

Obagain, where are you located?

I am in fort worth texas.
You can add shaft extensions, no need to replace the shaft.

Well, the Hogans would feel right at home (even if the newer ones came from China) but that's a bit far for me to drive on my lunch break.

That's good news. Thanks.

Sib, at 5'7, I doubt shaft lengthening will be an issue for you

I've been thinking about gettng my MX23s fitted...there's a place here that'll do it for $50. There's also the issue that I've considered replacing my 7-PW with MP30s (if anyone has a half set of 30s they wanna sell on the cheap, let me know). So I'm not sure if it's the best time for me to do that.

I have always wanted to do it...just one more of those "eliminate the equipment fault" things.

If you live anywhere near a Golfsmith, you can get a fitting for free. I have fit myself for my clubs, but I always wondered if I was doing it correctly. When Golfsmith opened up in Orlando, I went in and got fitted to verify my results. While I was getting fitted, I was asking quesitons about driver shafts and they told me to go grab my driver and they would put me on the launch monitor. All that was free (with the exception of my purchase of a new shaft for my driver.)

Unfortunately, while Atlanta has 3 Golfsmiths, Augusta has none.

friday i go in to hit on the launch monitor, it costs 25 bucks to get on the monitor, and that price will go towards what you have done,

if i'm currently hitting my driver good, should i have them take a look at it anyway? will it make that big of a difference?

to what extent can these people bend cast clubs?

thanks
