Yep, that's right. When you pick up a dozen at the pro shop, how long does it usually last you?
Was just wondering.
Footnote: Not including 'horror' rounds, just the odd one lost but most played up to 'full term'.

Have not purchased a golf ball in well over 5 years. In fact, won a dozen ProV's almost 2 years ago... and the box still sits unopened in the basement.
1.) Used to play an upper end course quite a bit. As the play dwindled, towards the end of the season, it was obvious where most of the "misses" would be. In two rounds, playing by myself and hawking balls, found over 7 dozen ProV's.
2.) A son-in-law belongs to a course in a metro area. The course is excellent for hackers. Gets play from many who talk the talk, but are just learning to walk the walk. About 6 months ago, he brought me a 3-gallon pail full of nothing but Titleists.
3.) We are the first group off on Saturdays and Sundays at our course. So, we find quite a few that have been left behind by the Friday/Saturday afternoon groups. A little gust of wind, during the night time hours... or a little rain... will move leaves/grass that have hidden balls the afternoon before. I have found far more ProV's this year than I have lost.
Our course is tree lined. Lots of trouble, if you stray far out of the fairway. I have played as many as six or seven rounds with the same ball. This time of year, however, you can lose a ball in the fairway. The course uses a big leaf blower pulled behind a small tractor. They try their best to keep the fairways cleared of leaves. Starting early... before all the leaves have been blown from the fairway... or if it's a windy day, blowing the leaves back onto the fairways, you can lose balls that land dead center. I probably come out at least 4 or 5 dozen balls ahead each year. (Just sent 3 dozen nice balls to a cousin in Minnesota.)
Blessed to have a bag full of trustworthy friends who have provided this old man with hundreds of hours enjoying the great game of golf.
All depends on the course & how my rd is going. Sometimes I can play 2+ rds with the same ball & other times I will lose 4-5-6 of the damn things. What pisses me off is they aren't getting lost by being buried 100yds in the woods but rather right on the edge just outta the rough or sometimes just off the fairway & the rough is so heavy you can't see the ball unless you are practically standing on it.

I'll always start with a new ball per round and go through 1-2 balls per round - so id say about 5-7 tournament rounds per dozen.
side note - i did play 110 holes (12 x 9 hole course + 2 holes) with the same ball one in college - slazenger balata 100

I quit judging how well I am playing by my scores and now consider the round a success if I finish with the same ball I hit off the first tee.
Seriously though, I can normally get a dozen balls to last a couple of months if I am playing 3 - 4 times a week.

I bet one has last 5 rounds, but pretty tuff shape after that.
When asked how to put back spin on a i7,
Trevino said how far do you hit it?
The guy said 120yds and Trevino said why do you want to back it up?
I bought 6 dozen ProV1x at the beginning of this season. I currently have 2.5 dozen left new in the boxes plus about 24 that are scuffed out in the shag bag. So, after about 25 rounds, 16 balls that are gonzo. Not bad for a course that I frequent that has 11 of 18 holes that bring water into play with wayward drives or approach shots. I also really struggled at the beginning of this year and was hoisting balls into the trees like Chicago loses the Olympics.

Too many churches and not enough truth...
I just cracked my fourth dozen of ProVs last week so I'm losing them, or taking them out of play which is more common because they're dinged up, at a rate fairly similar to Rock. I don't lose a ton of balls but the occasional tree or cart path does a number on them, and if one makes it through a round, it gets retired. There's at least a couple dozen used balls in my bag, and my daughter has a bunch in her bag, too.
I always start with two new ones in my pocket. Preferably numbered 5 through 8.

I generally lose one ball a round lately. The last 2 rounds I played I used the same TM Red LDP, but its looking pretty rough now.
But that is just because I'm keeping my drives in play now. Before I was going through 3 or 4 a round it seemed. But my home course has either woods or water in play on every hole. Plus they keep the rough so deep you'd think they were trying to host a Major.
