Thread: I am not one to brag...but...

  1. #1

I am not one to brag...but...

Today I played 27 holes at our course and used only 33 putts!

And before ya ask, No gimmies.

    Front nine - 11 putts
    Second nine - 10 putts
    Third nine - 12 putts

The new putting method I adopted this year has just been getting progressively better.

Now, if I could just add a few more yards on my drives, I'd be a real happy camper!

Re: I am not one to brag...but...

Damn good job... I've had rounds where I get around 34-37 putts on 18 and felt I was doing okay enough to not be pissed.

Good round of putting. What was your score?

    Score was: 42 (damn pond!), 37, 40

In all fairness, part of the reason I had such few putts was on a few holes, instead of hitting the green with a mid/long iron, I was short and got REAL close with a wedge.

You're not one to brag? I'd brag to my friends that I know a guy who only had 33 putts in 27 holes. If I actually WAS the guy...

Nice putting, Rory. Care to share that putting method, or is it secret? I had some nice putting rounds this year and shot some low scores. Now I can't make a friggin' putt to save my life.

No doubt, how about sharing? Whats the secret? Picking the ball up and walking it over to the cup and dropping it in?

No secret at all! I mentioned in here a few times about going to the "Hinge Method" at the beginning of the year.....

Do a search on it and if ya need more info, I will elaborate tomorrow in detail.....right now I am watching the Iowa game.....

    Thanks guys!

Re: I am not one to brag...but...

lol, so the secret is to miss the greens and improve your chipping? I am all ears as to how that can be then extrapolated as improved putting I am more interested in your improved wedges!

A great stat but I was wondering the same thing. After all, the title is not "Finally broke 90... for 27". My record is 22 putts in one round with 2 holed chips.

That video they want you to bend over, put pressure on your knees and swing...but if ya notice, he moves his arms too....

The way I found out about this style of puting was my lower back was hurting...and extensive putting practice aggrivated it further.

So my chiropractor told me that to putt the normal way incorporates something like 90 different muscles and tendons (from lower back to fingertips) to work in unison together to putt. The hinge method uses only 8.

Not only is that demanding on the body, it is also is difficult to co-ordinate on a repeat basis.

So, what we started doing was (first increase the length of my putter an inch)....gripping th putter in my left hand, let my left arm drop naturally....then move so my left right (dominate) eye is directly above the putter head.

Grasp the putter normally and then keeping my entire body and arms still, bring the club back by hinging my wrists only....pause...and start the downswing.

If you do it naturally, the face of the putter will open up slightly and return at impact.

It is simple, repetative...the only way I miss is if I misread the putts now.

Re: I am not one to brag...but...

Sounds simple, so against everything they teach you about putting.

But I guess the real question is.. If the ball makes it to the bottom of the cup, I don't care how the hell it got there.

I don't mean this to sound rude at all so please forgive me if anyone is offended. Putting with just wrists is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. Nothing could be MORE inconsistent. How the hell do you hit a 50 footer with just hinging your wrists. I would have zero distance control and no control at all over the face angle of the putter. I tried it a few minutes ago on a putting thing I have and it's laughable. hey if it works for some of you guys, power to ya but not for me.It pretty much breaks every rule for consistent putting, IMO.
