    Anything else on Golf Channel?

    Hey mates!

I just re-signed contract with DirecTV, and my new package has a couple of great features. For the first time, I have The Golf Channel on my T.V.

Just wanted to ask you guys:

Are there any shows/programs I should certantly be aware of or stay away from?

    Thank you

    Cheers...

"Big Break" is a great show. Lots of good stress golfing when nothing else is on. Seems pretty real to me, not a bunch of staged stuff.

I like Top10 and Playing Lessons With the Pros. Top 10 is just a series of stuff like "Top 10 holes in golf" and "Top 10 Tiger (insert whatever you can think of here.)" Pretty neat show. Playing lessons is usually some b-level pro playing a round with some b-level celebrity, not really much lesson to it usually but it's still neat to watch.

I hate most of the shows. Playing Lessons w/ the Pro's is entertaining. The Golf Fix is good, just hate the show format.

    Big Break is iffy.

Re: Anything else on Golf Channel?

I think the Golf Channel is great.

I hate The Big Break. It was an OK idea but it's concept is old and not exactly reality. If it went away I wouldn't care a bit. I just find it annoying and inane.

On the positive side, they have coverage of:

European Golf Tour events (Excellent, much better announcers than most U.S. coverage)
First two rounds of almost every PGA Tour event (Excellent)
    Champions Tour events (Excellent)
LPGA events (Better than anyone else)
    Nationwide Tour events

Playing Lessons with the Pros (I have about 60 of these DVR'd, there are some real gems in there)
19th Hole (if you like Vince Cellini and two other douchebags arguing about golf topics :laugh
Top 10 (a variety of "top 10" golf moments)
A variety of different documentary type shows.
PGA, U.S. Open and Masters tournament Highlights from years past.

Sadly, a lot of the good shows are not on in primetime so you have to DVR a lot of them or watch at weird hours (like I often do).

    Best Round: 68 (par 70, 71.1/123)
    Handicap: 11.8

I like that European tour coverage is on in the mornings when I'm getting ready for work. I don't like that I end up watching the GolfLogix infomercial a lot of other mornings, though. Although I do think (as dorky as he is) Gary McCord has a very nicely fluid swing.

I believe if I were to go to a golfing hell.. McCord would be the announcer there.

Re: Anything else on Golf Channel?

The problem I have the the Golf Channel, is it's almost like watching some 1990's TV channel.. It feel so nostalgic and at the same time, behind the times. The commercials, the announcers.. It's all cheesy sometimes. The Top 10's are interesting if there is nothing on TV.. I like the coverage of the big events, and the like but beyond that.. It's just full of junk. I don't care to watch the LPGA stuff, nor do I find myself watching the Champions Tour.

The Nationwide stuff is cool, since it never gets covered by anyone else, but the quality of the coverage is something akin to being covered by like a middle of the road media/journalism class at a high school or college.
