Thread: oh dear oh dear

  1. oh dear oh dear

I am 44, and my eye sight has deteriorated recently, in as much as I now near bi-focals. I am already shortsighted, but can't read with my glasses anymore

what will this do golf, and how can I get around it? I assume that looking down on a ball when I'm putting with glasses that are split won't be easy!!

I must add I am a fine fit handsome specimen of a man apart from this

  2. Re: oh dear oh dear

Do you need bi-focals for golf Dave?

I would have thought a standard pair would be fine and it's not as if you miss any fairways to have go and look for the ball.

Easy, I have prescription trifocal sunglasses that I simply put on top of my cap when I hit the ball. I really only use them to look at the UPro details.

I hear UST do white shafts.

I didn't think you hit it far enough to lose sight of it Dave. As for the short putts a blur is all I ever see anyway.
Doctors say that you should eat 5 pieces of fruit or veg a day to remain healthy. Last week I ate 5 mouldy plums and that night I shat the bed. What's healthy about that?:shocked::shocked:

  6. Re: oh dear oh dear

My dad has a similar problem. He had his optometrist custom grind a set of glasses that put the focus of his prescription more towards the bottom of his glasses, so when he looks down on a ball at address it is in focus. He seems to like them.

Just paint some wide red stripes on them, dave, and you'll be good to go!

I went route of Lasix surgery and then reading glasses when needed. I'm happy. Bifocals and contacts were a very uncomfortable compromise.

  9. Re: oh dear oh dear

Do not attempt to play golf in bifocals. I tried it doesn't work, the ball isn't where you think it is.

Get a separate pair of single vision glasses and you'll be much happier.
It must be awful to have to work for a living.

  10. Re: oh dear oh dear

I have the same challange. Single vision with brown transitions are the answer. And NO WAY did bifocals work for me. (By the way, an inexpensive way to try single visions - go to www.greateyeglasses.com.

Side note - no affiliation with these guys.

  11. Re: oh dear oh dear

Also dave., take care to try the frames in the optometrist's office before you buy them. Take your golf stance and be sure that the rims of the lenses are big enough for you to see the whole ball and not not cut it half. I made that mistake with one pair.

My bifocals don't bother me. Hit a bunch of range balls. You get used to them.

  14. Re: oh dear oh dear

Its not hitting balls that bothers me, its putting, I am sure that either the frame or the line across the lense will interfere

  15. Re: oh dear oh dear

My lenses don't have lines. Hit some putts, you'll get used to it.
