Thanksgiving. I wonder why the seperation between the weekends between American and Canadian....i've probably been told, and just didn't care all that much at the time.

Anyone have a reason behind that?

Both holidays share the same "celebration of the harvest" roots. The date difference is explained below. Personally, having celebrated both, I like the timing of the US Thanksgiving better. It's typically a 2 day holiday which is nice, it kinda opens the Xmas season also, which is nice.

***Google references - accuracy not verified****
In 1879 Canadian Parliament declared November 6th a day of Thanksgiving and a national holiday. Over the years the date of Thanksgiving changed several times until on January 31st, 1957 Parliament proclaimed….”that the 2nd Monday in October”…..”be a Day of General Thanksgiving to Almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed”.

In 1939, 1940, and 1941 Franklin D. Roosevelt, seeking to lengthen the Christmas shopping season, proclaimed Thanksgiving the third Thursday in November. Controversy followed, and Congress passed a joint resolution in 1941 decreeing that Thanksgiving should fall on the fourth Thursday of November, where it remains.

1. Proclaimed by Parliment. Great.
2. Almighty god. Great.

Just when things were starting to come together.

I'm already lobbying for my family to have Christmas in January.

1. Stuff is at least 40% cheaper. That's not being cheap, that's being a good consumer.
2. There are no crowds. Christmas sucks. If you've ever been shopping when it's -40, you'll know of what i speak.
3. We have no kids right now. No one to fool into thinking that "Santa is coming" or that baby jesus came from a virgin.

Speaking of which, did that thing in Kansas ever get settled about teaching the origins of the earth and the beginning of life?

We're staying home which I like at Thanksgiving. I'd like it to be a bit cooler though, they're saying highs near 80 today and tommorow.

There's sound to this but it's clean.

We're cooking two small turkeys this year. A few years back I tried the deep fried version and have been eating them that way ever since.

It sounds bad for you but if you skip the skin they're fat free and so tender and juicy you'll never want a baked one again. Can't wait.

Quick Edit: If you try it don't do this.
