Question Regripping? DIY or pay?

7 of my irons need new grips. They came regripped (used on eBay) with some kind of soft rubber Winn grips, and they are now turning my hands black.

I really like the Hogan grips on my other clubs, they are kinda like Tour Velvets. Can you get those installed at a proshop?

If I can't get the Hogans, I will probably go with Tour Velvets. I have never installed any myself, but I do have a book. Should I try it myself or pay someone?

Do you know the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? The porcupine has its' pricks on the outside.

It's easy, doc. Just make sure you have all the right stuff. Plenty of grip solvent is key. After you do it once yourself, you'll never go back.

Just one word of advice. Don't position yourself directly behind the grip as you snug it up. All remaining grip solvent comes shooting out the hole at the top of the grip, and can leave a nice little stain in an embarrassing place, if you get my drift.

Doc,
Do it yourself. I have done it several times with the tape and solvent method. easy as pie as long as you are not stingy with the solvent ( and spend the $4 for the rubber vise adapter). I think the air compressor method would be even easier. But on the otherhand, what does the proshop charge ? Golfsmith has it all.

Doc,

Regripping is about as hard as peeling a carrot. The hardest part is buying the supplies. Tape, solvent and grips can all be had for a few bucks at Golfsmith (they actually sell a grip kit that is super cheap).

I have this on hand too:

Ice Cream pail
Rags
Hook blades for utility knife (you can buy these at Home depot for 2 bucks)
Beer

If you run into trouble, let me know. I'll then get the gun and we'll head out into the pasture....

Not if you match what was there before. Single wrap tape, double wrap, whatever. Just match it up. It will also give you a chance to tinker a bit with the grip.

Give it a go!

Just Do it yourself. It's really not that hard and you don't have to pay to have someone do it. I do it myself cause I'm a big boy now

Golf Pride Tour Velvet. Ribbed .580 version. Get them while you still can! (They're taking them off the market, is what I've heard....)

Rock only likes them because of the name: "ribbed". It reminds him of his love life with his ewe.

The reminder rib is outstanding. For me, it helps me put the grip on straight and true. Plus, I know where my hands should be at all times.

I can't believe you sold those X-16's Neal. I figured you'd have them for years and years....
