What are your (Golfing) new year resolutions?

I am a keen golfer and play off a Handicap of 9. Every year (like all golfers) I say I'm gonna get my handicap down but each year it stays pretty much the same. This year is going to be different, because unlike past seasons this year I've got a plan.

I'm lucky really that i have a flexable job which means in Summer i can play 5-6 times a week. My main problem is I don't use this time to it's full potential. I go down to the club to practice but always end up playing the course instead. This is my main resolution for this season I AM still going to go down to the club 5-6 times a week but I'm going to start practiceing my putting, Chipping and genrally from 80 yards and in, Which to be honest does bore me. I'd rather be pounding a 300 yarder with my driver but thats why my handicap isn't coming down. No point smashing a massive drive straight down the middle then walking off with a bogey. To make it happen this year I'm gonna leave my clubs at home and just take a wedge and putter to work in my van, this way i won't be tempted to forget the practice and just play the course.

Also I'm playing winter league golf this year which for me is unheard of. Normally I stop playing in September and don't start again until March. This hopefully will mean it doesn't take me 6 weeks at the start of the season to get any sort of sharpness back into my game.

Hopefully these two aims should help me get my handicap down.

What are your targets for the season and how are you going to achieve them?

What part of Man-chest-aar are you from, mate ? I spent a lot of (messy) weekends in Didsbury back in the day, and also went out with a gal from Rochdale for a bit, too.

My New Year's Golfing Resolution is to get down to Scratch. I'm off 2.2 at el momento, so 15 or so one and two-overs should make me scrape to it. Will be looking to break par when I go out, though. Have had the tendency to "protect" scores in the past, but for the latter part of the summer was just trying to seek out flagsticks, which is by far the better way round things. I'm gonna need a job that relieves me on a Saturday so that I can achieve my goal, though....

I have the same resolution, I am just on the other end of the spectrum. Still trying to break 100.

I have been playing golf off and on (mostly off) for the last 15 years. I went to the range today and only brought my 9, 60 degree wedge and the putter.

10 sweet shots with my 9, 10 so so with the wedge, and then hit another 50 chips around the green.

Then putted for about 1/2 hour. I putted much better than I have the last few times I played (started using the claw grip and was blown away, let's see how I feel about it in a couple weeks)

I'm going to improve my fw's hit this year. I'm also going to keep track of all my scores and really concentrate on improving overall.

MG:

I think the best thing you are doing is playing in the winter. I usually play about 3 rounds a month in the winter and by Spring I usually drop the index by about 2-3 so I think you will some great results from this.
