Official Simulator Smacktalk thread

Me vs. Sling

I want redemption from the horrendous showing at Shenne

We have the sim booked from 2-5. Should be able to get in 18 holes and have some time left over.

Sling, what course?

Wanna put a drink on it(i'll give ya a stroke a hole or suttin)?

Make sure to get pics of Sling hitting one from just outside the shitter. Those are classic.

HAHAHAHAHAHA

We suck. Period.

I was 19 over after 9, Will (a plus 3 handicap) was 14 over, and Sling was somewhere around 30 over. This may have something to do with the fact that the simulator was having trouble picking up on any kind of draw spin, which was killing me(i usually play a big push with a big draw to come back to the middle), and Will's 2 irons and 3 woods(the only clubs he draws) caused the same problems. Putting is atrocious, you just putt over the two sensors and hope. The irons were fairly accurate, but i was dead once we got more than 150 out. We played a back nine which was a little better, i was 4 over after 6, Will was 1 over, and Sling was 7. But overall, the simulator here is much tougher than real golf. However, the guy conveniently came to recalibrate the machine right after we finished.

Blegh

The sims here are decent, except if you have tremendous ball speed with the driver. You hit what would easily be 300 yards and it just tops 220. At the same time, if you hit a 3 wood decently, it goes 250ish. Go figure. But the wedge play and spin is outstanding. It picks up draws and fades and also recognizes chips that you want to release and those you want to spin. Putting is another tough thing, as if you have a 2 footer, and it's 6 feet to the screen, how do you judge speed? We usually have it set up to give gimmees inside 3 feet.

What course did you guys play?

Damn difficult.

It was my first time on a simulator (other then for fitting purposes) and this one was a little sketchy.

They were running links 99 on a windows 98 OS, ancient.

It was hard to get used to but I dialed it in near the end.

We played Banfry(?) and St. Andrews then did a target range thingy at the end.

Putting was just plain wierd. Neal had that aspect under control at least.

All in all it beats sitting at home.

Rock, thats pretty much what the 3 of us experienced. We all hit the ball pretty far, and we were getting screwed on distances, tho once in a while i'd get one out 270ish. The thing was picking up fade spin fine, but when my hooks go farther right than my fades, we have issues

It had never been this bad before, so hopefully if i go again it'll be better. Definitely does beat sitting at home, but i might be headed to florida later this month to play real golf
