Under trees - low trajectory shot?

Yes, I've lived under the trees on a couple holes in my life. Trees and the marsh just seem to be a magnet to me.

How do I get through them and at least get myself some yardage, keeping the trajectory nice and low?

Yes, I know I'm looking for a low iron (3/4), but what about ball position, stance/swing?

Let's say I've got 150 yards to the hole, and a bunker in front, so I wanna at least make it so my next shot will be a short chip.

Thx

Ball back in your stance, hands forward. You wanna try and get the ball as crisp as possible without trapping it, as this will make it rise. You don't want that. Keep your hands low through the finish.

Did you watch this past weekend? Appleby got in some trees and hit a textbook low hook. It was a great angle on the camera.

I try and take an extra club and swing easier. A harder swing imparts more spin on the ball, making it rise more. Just remember, you're using extra club so it goes farther.

Rock is on the money with his instruction. Hands forward thru impact would be my swingthought due to the fact that any flipping of the wrist will most likely lead to a higher, left to right ball flight. Also, never be afraid to take your medicine and pitch out sideways. Put one in the middle of the green and two putt at worst for bogey. Stranger things have happened dude

Rock is right on the money, except he forgot one thing...

Make sure to choke up a few inches on the shaft, this will help you keep those hands ahead of the ball!

Harvey Penick never used the word "choke" to his students. Makes sense.

Why add bad thoughts to a tough shot?

VT is right tho, I forgot to mention gripping the club down the grip a bit to achieve the hands ahead of the ball feel.

Considering the amount of times I have to hit out from under branches, I should be an expert at that shot...but...

most people here would suggest buying a new driver....

here's what i do

1) grip down several inches from where you normally grip
2) square stance with hands ahead of ball
3) swing back to right before you would hinge your wrists at the top of the swing
4) swing back down with a slower swing than normal (most important***)
5) drive hips through the shot and rotate on the follow through
6) lower hand finish than normal

club selection varies, depending on distance i try not to take more than a 5 iron b/c the ball might get caught in longer grass or whatnot
150 yards.... depending on the seriousness of how many trees you have, i would probably take a 5 iron, i've started experimenting on actually hitting down steeper on this shot, to get a low shot that rises eventually and will land halfway soft. i can pull if off about 1/3 of the time

make sure that you retain an angle in your left hand when punching the ball through to the target. Try and retain as much of your original set-up posture as if you dip much into the ball you will add height and spin to the ball. I was out playing low / draw punches into the wind t'other day, actually - was lots of fun.
