John Daly

Here's a photo of the big fella warming up on the range before the second round, plus a snap of him walking off the 6th green. I never saw anyone else doing that one-handed thing. Is it a legit exercise or was he shpoboating?

He didn't make the cut, sadly. He did sign my programme for me, with a "sure thing, bro" !

Is that a Maxfli bag for Daly now? Jeez, this guy changes sponsers as often as the local stop light changes from green to red.

I also noticed he was putting with a Taylormade in the earlier picture, any idea what clubs he plays now? Looks like the Dunlop deal is over.

Dunlop / Maxfli / Slazenger clubs are all under the same Umbrella group anyway.

Faldo used to practice using that method a lot. I used to do it quite a lot when I was a junior golfer, too.

I thought Maxfli was under the Taylormade/Addidas umbrella? It would make sense since John is wearing Addidas shoes and putting with a Taylormade putter and his caddy is wearing Addidas as well.

I am just wondering what irons he is playing now?

I don't think he was strictly showboating it. On a Playing Lessons with the Pros, he showed how he would sometimes practice that one-handed shot to improve his feel for the shortgame. It also helps that he's incredibly strong.

I've tried that a couple of times, just taking a half-swing back and getting the feel for the club pulling through the ball. But I don't have nearly the same coordination or strength as Daly, and will not get a clean hit all that frequently.

I think he said that he could hit a gap wedge about 75 yards with just his left arm.

Maxfli is under the Taylor Made Adidas umbrella. I wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't with Dunlop anymore after complaining to the media about how bad the Dunlop putter was last year.

I'm sorry to see he missed the cut. Although I'm not a huge fan of his, I do have a bit of a soft spot in my heart for him. He does have a bit of a blue-collar "everyman" quality about him.

This has been part of JD's routine for a while. I remember seeing him do that while warming up before the buick a few years ago.

I was watching Golf Channel the other night and saw a "Playing Lessons with the Pros" with Daly and he performed the one handed swing as well. Claims he can hit his Gap Wedge about 75 yard left handed and uses the drill frequently to help him keep his swing.

On another note, I saw a picture of Daly at Torrey Pines and he was wearing one of those yellow R7 Talormade hats. Any one know what irons/clubs he has in his bag now?
