Questions About Proper Technique

"The most exquisitely satisfying act in the world of golf is that of throwing a club. The full backswing, the delayed wrist action, the flowing follow-through, followed by that unique whirring sound, reminiscent only of a flock of passing starlings, is without parallel in sport."
Henry Longhurst

If that quote is true, then where in this forum do I find information on the proper technique to throw a golf club?

If throwing a club is so highly regarded, then why are there no training aids, books or videos about the subject?

Hopefully, some of the knowledgeable members of the forum will be able to help me out with some questions.

1 - What is the proper grip?
2 - How do I know I'm aligned properly?
3 - If I'm right-handed, does my right side dominate?
4 - Should the throw be made overhand, underhand or perhaps
three-quarters, or maybe side-arm?
5 - Is it OK to practice at the driving range or at the golf dome?
6 - Which clubs are better suited for throwing?
7 - Do the new materials (graphite, titanium etc.) help
in achieving better distance and accuracy?

Your help in any or all of these problems would be appreciated.

Thanks

1 - What is the proper grip? With the right hand for a righy handed golfer. The glove can cause a late release and take away distance.
2 - How do I know I'm aligned properly? As long as you are faceing away fro the rest of the foursome and not at water you are fine.
3 - If I'm right-handed, does my right side dominate? Yes until release and then you have to ease up with the left. After all you don't want to fall down and look like an idiot.
4 - Should the throw be made overhand, underhand or perhaps
three-quarters, or maybe side-arm? Side are is the best method, with a slightly upward swing plane.
5 - Is it OK to practice at the driving range or at the golf dome? You should practice in private. Never reveal your seacrets until the proper time.
6 - Which clubs are better suited for throwing? The putter. The head is nice and heavy and can get you 10-15 yards nore distance.
7 - Do the new materials (graphite, titanium etc.) help
in achieving better distance and accuracy?
No the lighter the club the more expensive. You are taking out anger, not trying to ruin your $500 driver.

Practice makes perfect!

I threw a 3 iron once in disgust. It was actually more an a sign of idiocy than anything else. Trying to hit a 3 iron out of a fairway bunker on a par 5 is just stupid. Plugging it into the face of the bunker is even more stupid. But to top it all off, helicoptering your 3 iron into the branches of a 40 foot ash tree is the cream of the crop.

I've never thrown a club since. Not at my bag, not even tossed it 5 feet to my bag, nothing.

I learned my lesson.

Of course, I'll still try the 3 iron out of the bunker any chance I get....

LOL - I tried a 3W out of a bunker once. Same result (minus the club throwing part of course)

Why would you even try it? That's what I said to myself when I did it. It's obviously not going to work, and you know it!

I've never thrown a club. I've come close to throwing my own self in a lake in disgust though.

Try hitting a 3 iron out of a bunker. You'll be tempted to chuck, trust me.

Yeah, that's some of the thinking. Before every round, I always remind myself, "Leave the hero shots to the players."

A few weeks back I might have broken 90 if I hadn't tried for a couple of hero shots.

HAH!!

Well I've never hit a 3-iron out of a bunker, but I've hit a 20* hybrid and thankfully the results were not worthy of a thrown club.

Confucius say, "Wood in bunker, wood in head."

Also, as per club throwing, don't EVER throw it at your bag if you have a stand bag.

I used to be a habitual thrower, and would always throw it at my bag so as to not to have to chase it. It hits the bag, you pick it up, put it away, and off you go.

Until I made the perfect throw.

From about 15 feet whipped my 6-iron, it caught the stand of the stand bag perfectly, shaft to shaft in the middle, forming basically a plus sign, and came absolutely straight back and the 6-iron head hit me square between the eyes. BAM!!! Knocked myself clean the **** out, but only until I fell to the ground. Got up and couldn't see straight.

It hurt like hell too, but I couldn't cry about it. I mean, all you feel is just stupid. The other guys in the group are just laughing at you and you still have to try to win the hole, and the side, playing with double and triple vision. ****ing stupid.

Now I just drop my club. Hit a bad shot, club drop, pick it up, put it away, off I go.

Hadn't thrown a club for about 3 years and totally lost it one day and forgot and whipped it at the bag, as it left my hand I had FLASHBACKS. I was just stricken with terror, and sure enough, that son-of-a-bitch came flying straight back at me. Because of my previous experience, I was able to move out of the way because I was half-expecting it to come back.

Don't whip the club at your stand bag.
