High School Reunion

Somehow I got drunk and found myself volunteering to put together a golf outing for our 20 Year re-union. Now of course I h ave never done anything like this. Any help you guys could give would be appreciated. I figure it will be extremely low key, probably no more than 40 people. We have plenty of reasonable courses nearbye. Anybody have an experience and is willing to offer a guiding hand, I'd appreciate it. Figure I have about 8 months to get it sorted out.

thanks

Call the courses. They'll set you up. They cater to that stuff all the time and can give you numbers on fees, food, accomodations needed, ect.

You only graduated with 40 other people? Weird. Anyways, expect people plus their spouses to attend, and then subtract about 40%.

I've organized a few outings in the past, it's not really a big deal. The hardest part is getting people to commit, so I recommend getting confirmation ASAP and payment even sooner!

Good luck!

I agree with Rock. Call the course and let them take care of most of the details.

Cool thanks, I'm figuring not that many people would golf due to the demographics of our high school and general apathy for reunions and what not.

I know about "closest to the pin" and "longest drive" prizes, anybody got any other gimmicks? Maybe some monogrammed golf balls thrown in or something (with our HS)?

It's always nice to have a cheesy prize for the worst player... makes losing a little easier to swallow (especially at a high school reunion - yikes!)

Golf balls would be cool. Our local shop does them with a 6 dozen minimum. A sleeve per person, 40 people = 120 balls, 10 dozen.

Closest to the pin ladies/men, long drive, straightest drive are all classics. Door prizes and make sure that everyone gets something. Don't give out "First Place" prizes, just randomly draw names for prizes. That way, everyone goes home happy.

Ask local shops if they'd be willing to donate, as well as those attending. You never know when that schlepp you used to stuff his head into the toilet isn't the CEO of GM or some crazy shit now. And he'd be willing to donate something you'd think....

And steak dinners are genuinely better attended than burgers and hot dogs. Costs increase, but most people are more willing to pay 50 bucks for golf and a steak than 40 bucks for golf and a hot dog. At least around here they are.

Actually, no. I've mainly "won" golf balls so they aren't on my mantle. I'd be willing to bet most are at the bottom of a lake somewhere.

Fiesty today, eh Rock?

Fiesty? Nah, it's Monday. It's early yet. Just wait til Thursday-ish, when the big guns come out.

I appreciate your honesty about the golf balls and their ultimate fate.

We played a tournament where they had a fundraiser for cancer research at a par 3. 5 bucks got you a chance for a sleeve of balls if you hit the green. An ace got you a chance at coming back later on in the month for a chance at a million with a second ace. Even money, hey? I paid my 5 bucks and put it to about 6 feet. The girl hands me a sleeve of balls. Pink! WTF!

It was absolutley necessary to smoke those 3 balls off the next teebox to see how close we could get to hitting the pool in some guy's backyard. No chance, he was 340ish out. One hopped it off the fence tho...Happy Gilmore style....
