Canada, please take back your geese

They're carpet-bombing the fairways and greens near the ponds of a course I frequently play. Everywhere you look and step, goose turds. Please take them back, and keep them.

Aside from inconsiderate golfers who show total disregard for any level of etiquette, this is just another reason why we should be allowed to carry a 12-guage shotgun in our golf bag.

Reason #22 to play golf in Texas. No goose poop on the fairways.

Those bastards tear up our course too...from what I have read though - these geese do far more damage to the environment in Canada than they do in the US. It is my understanding that in northern Canada where they spend the summer - they have basically just completely eaten all of the ground vegetation and their crap has affected the ground water....

I think it would be a lot of fun if the Canadian Wildlife management people would allow an open hunting season in northern canada with no restrictions. You could use any sort of electronic calls and could have as many shells in your gun as it would hold. That would be a ton of fun....

Has their population been increasing? I don't remember so much goose droppings when I was playing over 10 years ago.

I don't want to hurt them. I just want them to get litter-trained or something.

Also, there something like 30 different types of CG, some being larger than others.

We have a man made lake in the middle of our city. The provincial and municipal government just spent like 17 million bucks to empty and deepen the lake because of the weed problem. Anyways, i'm willing to bet that the top 15 feet of the mud and sludge they took outta there was goose shit.

Oh, don't worry. They made a big hill of it just off the main road that encircles the city. The grass seems to be greener there...

As for making the water bad, that's the first I've ever heard of that. There's a golf course right off the aforementioned lake that has a kid that works full time in the summer washing clubs and using a black lab to keep the geese off the course. Seems to work, but every morning there's always some little "gifts" left by the geese when they go wandering accross the fairways.

No big deal, in my opinion...

You gotta love recurrent themes. Maybe it's an east coast thing?

Ya, deja vu.

I checked the post times on this, I thought this had been brought up in the past sometime.

It's winter here, so talking about poultry shit on the golf courses gives me gooze bum....that's such a terrible joke....lol.

when I was living in chicago a dozen years ago I remember the goose chit as pretty darn thick. But i think it is legal to move off your putting line, and if the turds are firm the key is dont move em far off line. as thick as it was you can make a little chute out of them and easily one putt. think positive, work em to your advantage.

Rock it was my impression that the geese summer all the way up in Baffin Bay - that far north. I may be wrong about that though. It was my impression that environmentalists there said they were kind of wrecking the ecosystem because of the lack of vegetation and the shit contaminating the bay waters...

B,

Ya, they fly up to the Arctic circle in the summer months. Good eating for them there. They're everywhere in Canada throughout the summer. Some stay here in Regina all year round. Grain fields, ect.

I could see if there were millions of geese in one small area that it might impact the ecosystem temporarily, but i really doubt that. Snow geese congregate in huge numbers too up there, maybe they contribute to the problem.

It might be a local thing, but i'm unsure as to how much that has an impact on society tho. Still, interesting story...
