Close but no cigar

Shot 101, trying to break 100 for the first time. Had 4 pars though, blew a couple of birdies into bogeys. And I hit my 3 iron 240 yards, the guys I was playing with were like go ahead and hit it, the people in front of us are on the green, you are not going to carry 250. I was thinking I could and I almost did. Needless to say we waited after that.

Good job. Believe me, it'll feel really nice the first time you break 100, and get to write down only 2 digits and not 3.

Of course, after that, your obsession will become breaking 90...

Keep it up, I shot 101 about five times before I broke the magic number. As RBB said it's really sweet adding up to two digits for the first time, but you'll never be truly happy. Each milestone just gives way to the next. Golf is an evil bitch goddess. I love her dearly.

You'll get there. I have been playing for a little over 2 years and didn't break 100 till last year. The secret, worked on chipping and putting. I broke 90 a little over 2 months later. I actually smashed it, shot an 84. I decided not to hit my driver on every par 4 and had only 29 putts. I find I play a lot better when I leave myself a full iron to the green. Where are you playing anyway, not in Washington??

Ugh, I'm disgusted with my round yesterday. I played in a group net score tournament yesterday, I am given 15 strokes a round and I couldn't capitalize on ANYTHING, I am not exaggerating, when I had 56 putts yesterday. I have never been a bad putter, I'm not sure what the deal was, i couldn't sink anything more than 2 feet, On a par 5 i was 5 feet away from the cup on my 3rd shot, putted for birdie, missed, followed by 4 more missed putts for an 8! I ended up shooting a 110, not bad for 56 putts. I can't wait till the Scotty comes.

Ezra

Playing the course right around the corner from my house here in Olympia WA, and I actually got some rolling action on my drives today. I was close, I 1 and 2 putted most of my holes, it was the 4 putt on a par 4 that killed me, or the 4 holes that I three putted. Had 16 putts on the front and 22 on the back.

Keep it up. I can't imagine the greens are in all that great of shape this time of year. I played last week and shot a 96 on a really easy course. The greens were horrible, they had footprints imbedded in them, ball stopped on a dime though. I find that sometimes it's better Not to try and make every putt. Getting the speed right and setting up for a 2 footer is sometimes better than trying to hole a 20 foot miracle. I like to leave the stick in when I do this. Enjoy the weather, we just got a friggin blizzard out here. The one course I can afford that's open is built on a swamp too. Once this crap melts it will be another 2 weeks before it's even playable. I play a mean mud wedge though.
Here's a suggestion of something I do to work on putting in my living room. I have a 32 ounce cup I putt into from 12 feet to work on my line. I also practice putting to my T.V. stand. I try to get the ball to hit it and just rest against it, no rebound. It's kind of funny now that I think about it. On the green I find my self saying coffe table, recliner, endtable....judging the speed I want from certain distances. I sheet you not.

Well I hope you folks in the NE are staying warm and safe in light of the record snow-fall you've just endured. Here in the mid-west it's a bit chilly but dry as a bone.

The one thing I hate about golfing this time of year (especially when it is so dry) is the ground is so damn hard. If you try to take any sort of divot to try and achieve some spin it's like driving your iron into concrete!!
