Simulator

One of the local drinking establishments has a golf simulator in it. Some of my golf buddies and I are going down there to try it out (long winters in SD, we are dying to swing a club).

My question is....is there any problem with playing my regular clubs there? Will hitting it off those mats of the simulator damage my clubs in anyway? One of the guys is bringing an old set of irons because he doesn't want to hurt them. Should I worry about that? Or can I just play my regular clubs and not worry about damage? Just looking for opinions.

Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about it. The sims around here have really nice mats for hitting off of. They have longer grass for rough, even longer for Oakmont style rough and some soft, wispy stuff to resemble sand, which actually works pretty well.

If you're hitting forged clubs, you could tweak them in terms of loft and lie, but I honestly doubt it would happen unless you're a real pelter. If you're taking divots in the sim, maybe tone it down a bit.

I played sims all last winter and had no problems with my 33's.

They are actually usually nicer than the mats at the Driving Range. So assuming your swing is not restricted with obsticles around, which I couldn't imagine it would be, they should be fine assuming you have no problem with hitting off Driving range mats every now and then.

Just be aware that a simulator is pretty inconsistent with your ball path. The one I go to reads a draw as a push, a fade as a pull, and a slice or hook as tragedy just like in real life about 90% of the time . My wife has a good time because she hits a dead straight ball path. I personally only like them for the beer and being able to swing my clubs in the winter, we are thinking of going this weekend. Ahhh, the misery, ahhh need more beer.

Thanks for the response guys.....that's kind of what I figured, but just wanted to get some more opinions. I have some new clubs and didn't want to wreck them before they say the real thing.
