my swing (finally)

Ok, i actually have 7 videos of my swing, but that would use up too much bandwidth, correct? So i figured i will post two, one of my driver swing before, and one of it after minor changes. My finish is still awkward on the new swing, but it is fine through impact, and the finish is just slightly restricted because i still have yet to fine a comfortable finish that grooves with my swing. Here is the video before:

and after. Thanks sling for your help, it shows a lot about yourself. Also, if any of you would like to take a look at my smoother swing with an iron, before and after, let me know and i'll post more video. Thanks all, and any feedback would be appreciated. Neal

well my backyard is just about wet enough to wade knee-deep in after the snow melted, and there's nowhere close that i could hit a ball off of, if i could tape the swing myself i could head down to the field, but other than that, i can't hit balls in my backyard due to trees. I dunno, maybe i'll hit a few 5-irons in the yard tomorrow, if i can get my bro to tape me. Neal

silver, i use the strong grip to fight the slice. I did have some problems with the slice though, but actually i changed the swing to reduce problems both with slicing and snap hooks, so far it works. What did you see with the 'before swing' that you could pinpoint that with? The main reason i changed was because i was swinging on two different planes trying to keep my left arm too close, so i let it go a little and have a more uniform backswing and downswing. Thanks for the input. Neal

Bounce a few off the neighbors house, I'm sure they won't mind.

The thing that I noticed was a very shallow backswing, which (to my limited understanding) is often compensated for by coming more over the top on the downswing - just as you said - two different planes.

You were going way inside on the backswing and too far outside on the downswing. Basically the opposite of Furyk.

Keep in mind, I'm not very good at this game, I just noticed that. My thoughts are worth about what you're paying for them

Nice swing, the only thing I would say at about 3/4 on the way back you collapse a bit an dip down. The length looks good and the balance maybe a wee bit to much weight shift but it looks like a decent swing.

PS: what age are you?

I could post another one of my swings the pro emailed me but it is form last year and aint great what you think should I?

yeah, some thing's im working on are:

1. less lateral movement, more coil
2. not taking the club back inside
3. Cutting that 'stand up' and then the 'dip'
4. Keeping backswing and downswing on same plane(pretty much #2)
5. not sliding the right foot
6. Not throwing myself at the ball so much

I'm 16, this is the start of my 3rd year of golf, and i play to a 10.3 handicap. Thanks for the feedback. Neal

Sweet I just turned 16. The young bucks will start to dominate here.

Yeah I have been playing 3 years as well.

Things I woud like to work on.

1. Less laterial movment.
2. Have a tendency to take it back on the inside sometimes.
3. My grip.

Those are the main things to work on until April.

Hopefully I will have got them sorted by then. I am small for my age so have mroe mevement than I would like.

Here is a movie of my swing from last year.

As you will see there is a lot of movement and I take it way on the inside a lot more than I do now.

I am hitting a 7 iron at are practice range.

TM....u going into your third year or your fourth year? sounds like i got some catching up to do. I played occasionally in 03, in 04 i started my handicap and brought it from a 24 to a 10, and in 05 my goal is to get it below 5, so i gotta tweak my swing a little to get better results. Neal

The reason for the slice multifold. You lock your right hip on the backswing. You lay the club off during your backswing and then try to compensate at the top with a manipulation. You don't stay behind the ball on the downswing. Since your R hip and leg are locked, you have to shoot hard back toward the target, which makes it hard to stay back.

The reason you go from slices to hooks (inconsistency) is because your backswing is so flat. My God, man... Your plane borders on paralell to the ground. With a flat swingplane, timing must be exact for a staright ball. Hit the ball "early" and you either have a hook or a push. "late" and you have either a pull or a slice, all depending on clubface position.

I would work on kicking in the R knee a little at address to guard against locking that hip out. I would also work on a more upright plane, which will be on the target line longer, and thus requiring less perfect timing. Also, I would work on less manipulation to have the club square-to-slightly-open at the top of the swing. Lastly, I would quit trying so hard to keep my head "still" and over the ball so long after the club has cleared. That too leads to inconsistence. Let your shoulders naturally pull your head up towards the target. Besides consistency, this will also prolong your golfing career by not fracturing your back as you grow up into a man.

Besides that, looked perfect. Or, I could be wrong about all of it. JMO.

this sounds odd.....but my plane got flat as soon as i got the shanks. I started swinging too upright and just shanked everything, so i stood farther back and swung flatter. Big mistake, now it's ingrained. I took a few 'correct' swings outside, and without a ball in sight, i feel like i'm gonna shank it. I'll hit some balls in the backyard and see what happens. Thanks. Neal
