longest drive ever bar none

Have a look at this news story http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/4765878.stm

You know we golfers are going to be inundated with advertising guff from whichever ball manufacturer gets this deal. They will probably find one or two of mine already up there from when I've been trying to knock the skin off it and gone right underneath it.

I have had way too many shots where the ball was never seen again"

I guess Alan Shepard will lose his status as holding the longest golf shot ever. Although, he will still have the longest sand shot ever.

What if it doesn't burn up? It would suck to get hit with that drive.

the longest drive ever on TV was several billion lightyears (that's one for the Sci-fi nerds like me who watch things like Stargate)

Question: If the ball burns up on re-entry, how can they claim it as the farthest drive ever? Where to you measure the distance to? As they will not be able to find and identify the ball won't it be considered a lost ball and they will have the stroke and distance penalty?

Yeah, if it never lands then does it still count?

Same thing happens to me, except it's "Some experts warn a mishap could cause "catastrophic" damage to the scorecard."

As long as it does not take out the XM Satellite, I am cool with it. Looks like those whacky canuks want to contribute something more to the space program than the arm to the Space Shuttles

You know if it was R35 making the decisions it would be a Mizzuno club and Callaway HX being used (although with the anouncement of the end of the HX Red/Blue line he might not want to waste one.)

Well, the article says that the ball will travel for millions of miles, so I guess it's probably safe to say it'll be the longest drive ever.

Quote:
The ball is expected to travel millions of miles - its progress tracked using global positioning transmitters as it gradually loses altitude through atmospheric drag.
True enough about the penatly strokes though.

I would suggest hitting a provisional just in case he can't find the first ball.
