Thread: Winter Rules??

  1. Winter Rules??

I'm wondering if anyone else plays by the lift, clean and place "winter rules". I do this, but only if my ball has plugged or become caked in mud. I will not do it just for the sake of trying to improve my lie (which I have accused my dad of doing... in July). I even hit out of a snow bank last time out. I justified that if the bank had not been there my ball would have more than likely gone into the woods. I managed to get it to 6ft with my 54* SW (snow wedge).

Yes, it is a club rule at my local club and is at most clubs in the area. It doesn't really matter because the competitons from October - March are not handicap qualifying. The rule is 6 inches to the left or right, but no closer to the hole.
Winning isn't everything, it's the only thing.

  3. You are allowed relief from that snowbank as casual water btw.

I usually just play by the rules of golf. But sometimes, especially this time of year, it is necessary to play winter rules.

When we do play them it's usually in the fairway only, and like the Master said, 6 inches no closer to the hole. The Rules of Golf always apply though. If your ball plugs in the rough, more often than not it's in casual water, or your stance would be.

When every ball that is hit in the fairway gets mud all over it, it's time for winter rules.
