Head shrinker books

I've just reread the Rotella "Golf is not a game of Perfect" book. imo some good stuff in it. I see he has a series of these books out there. "Golf is a Game of Confidence", "The Golf of your Dreams" etc. A few questions:

How do Rotella's books rank? Is this guy The Dude or is this just the same old stuff packaged marginally different? From all of his books, anyone care to recommend their favorite?

Waiting for the longer evenings to kick in, so looking for some good head material to get me going...

I haven't read any of Rotellas stuff but did find Zen Golf to be an interesting read. I actually managed to get a couple of things out of it that I use almost every round.

Hi IG...its been awhile and hope all is well...

I don't know about his books but he does have a really good reputation with the guys on the Tour. He has had a steady stream of Tour clients for 20+ years so he must be doing something right...

I've read two of them, and very much enjoyed them. His and Penick's are the only golf books i've read that are worth anything IMO

Hey Bravo, how's tricks with you? Slowly trying to roll out the game for spring onslaught.

M:

It has been a winter of discontent...but Spring is here and I am looking forward to this season...

We fired our greenskeeper last August because he lost greens #1-7 when we had a mini-heatwave...they got over 70 applications for the job and hired the Assistant.

Eyebrows were raised since most of the others had Head Superintendent experience...additionally, this fellow is pretty young (but with very good college education in agronomy etc).

He has done a wonderful job during the winter. Greens #3-7 are superb and #1&2 are almost there...so everyone is getting happy as clams again round the 'house...

During the first ten days of March in this part of the country, the supers punch/aerate and heavily sand the greens - so we will have really crappy putting conditions for the next 3 weeks or so. Oh well, work on some other aspect of it.

Beautiful weather now though - running around 22-23C and the days getting steadily longer.

I need lessons on everything but cannot afford it. I'll gimp along with a rotten swingplane, bad shortgame, but belching and farting with gusto and efficiency.

After all - this is what really counts.

All the best from over here.

J

IG,

Golf is not a Game of Perfect is an absolute must-read. IMO it is by far the best book on what to do and not do, what to think, and how to manage your round of golf.

That book will change the way you think around a golf course.

That said, the rest of his books, I feel, are total snores. Not worth the money I paid for them. If I HADN'T read "Game of Perfect", then I'd probably feel they have some value. But since you've read Game of Perfect, you won't really learn anything new.

I'd say, if you can read them for free from a friend or library, then go ahead. Really though, your time would be better spent re-reading game of perfect.

I try to read my copy once before each golf season. Now I just have to find it again.

Rotella's books are on my "must read" list, although I haven't gotten around to it yet.

One of the best books on the mental game is "The Inner Game of Golf" by Tim Gallwey. It deals pretty much exclusively with the mental aspect of golf.
