Question Okay, what is with all these sites

I am rather new to golfing and I have been googling the internet looking for sites and forums to answer my questions and to get tips to help me, a real person, not some prodigy.

I have gone to sites like the MSN group on golf and ICHAT about Golf and Mygolftalk.com and finally Linksplayer.Com and a few others, but none of these help me. They are all cool and everything but I am a learn by seeing.

They seem to offer things for the average or experienced golfer. I am looking for a site that can offer maybe video or step by step shots of how I should look and how I should hold the club.

Does anyone know if there is such a site?? Something with pictures (I am ashamed to say) would be most helpful

The problem is that all the tips and visual aids in the world can easily be misinterpreted.

We can tell you one thing and you may think another.

ALWAYS consider a lesson(s) with a qualified pro. either at a course or range.
The one on one interaction cannot be beat.

Welcome aboard, btw!

If you haven't read it already, go to the library and get Harvey Penick's Little Red Book. Would others here at this forum agree with me about reading Penick?

Forsure. He puts it into "real person terms". You don't have to be a pro to understand "weight shift" or "wrist **** angles" with Penick. He really hits the nail on the head with layman's terms.

Cool okay, I can get that

Not much library time, but I did look up and orer that book on amazon.com

Does anyone know of any online sites. My work time (away from abode) can be up to 16 hours but I am not always busy so I was looking for something online.

I went to linksplayerS.com (not to be confused with linksplayer.com as they are two WAY different sites) and one was a christian site with stats and the other like I mentioned earlier is nice and all but no pics.

Is there anything ONLLINE I can view? I figure if I got to sit here and be bored at least I can learn something.....

I have to go with what Sling said, that without some proper instruction, you may head off on the wrong foot.

Your best bet is to get a few lessons under your belt. That way, you'll have some fundamentals built up when you start to see online tips and tricks.

I'm pretty sure Golf Digest has a section for tips and tricks. Have a go over there.

Get all of the Penilk books. Best stuff out there by far. I only wish I could have taken a lesson from him before he died.

Yeah, to have had a lesson from Harvey Penick. I think about that alot. I understand there is a guy in the UK by the name of John Jacobs (not Tommy Jacob's brother) who is considered the British Harvey Penick.

How much money do you have budgeted to learn how to play the game?

Honestly, I have found some videos to be more helpful than photos and diagrams...It's hard to see the motion in a series of still photos...it also helps me to adapt a motion to my build...I'm broad shouldered and thin, but my hips a kinda wide so it effects the placement of my feet.

^----Nice avatar

Ben Hogan's 5 Lessons is full of drawings along with text that I found very helpful and easy to understand. I think it's a must read for people starting out or high handcappers(like myself).

I will second 5 Lessons by Hogan. Get it now before you start doing something wrong. The foundation he lays out, very well diagramed and very specifically about everything, will build you a great foundation to get started with.

Then just watch The Golf Channel for any other questions.
