Sheer Disaster Narrowly Averted

I worked all day long on Saturday staining/finishing a desk for my daughter...toiling away thinking about playing on Sunday morning...

Up early on Sunday at 6:15 am. The exact sequence begins: Coffee, paper, cereal, crapper, shower, shave, (and now post-melanoma), sunblock.

I have no garage and keep my clubs in a shed behind the house. At about 7:00, I went out to the shed and got my bag and shoes and walked over to my car.

It is locked. When my wife drives my car she always leaves it locked in my own driveway. Drives me insane...I cannot get into the car, so I lay my clubs and shoes behind the car and go back inside to get my keys...and something distracts me. My nine year old daughter is up and running about the house.

So of course now I have to wake up the wife to tell her to wake up so she can supervise the little one...and of course like all women - she wants to talk a lot - while like all men - I don't want to talk and want to go straight to the course and hit some balls before playing.

Now I am really scatterbrained. The well-planned sequence of the morning is shot. I rush to the car with my keys - get in and back out.

Crunch!!!

Ohmigawd....my clubs!!!

I pull forward, and put it in park....run back to the clubs - thinking the worst.

A miracle happened and they were OK. A bit of damage to my Ogio Grom II bag, but that was about it.

Six more inches and I would have needed over $2000 USD to replace it all...

Dodged a bullet.

Phew, close call there.

Something like that actually happended at my club, some guy had left his clubs beside his car (stand bag) and went into the proshop for a minute or two, anyway to cut the story short, his clubs where crushed by a 87 year old man who parked beside him, he didn't see them. Though I think the club might have covered him for them.

If I had $2000 USD in my clubs, there would be no wife to leave my car locked anyway... lol

Glad it all worked out, B.

Sounds like the Ogio valiantly gave its life so that the clubs might live. Sniff How touching.

They are good bags, aren't they?

We need a whole new thread for this topic.

Mine is more like: trip over dogs, coffee, trip over dogs, crapper, check e-mail, first smoke of the day and second cup of coffee, trip over dogs on way to crapper again, check Shottalk, check lottery, Bearclaw, 3rd and hopefully final crapper trip, boot dogs outside, shave, shower, get dressed, go to course.

That's a close Bravo. I'd hate to think I had to buy an entire bag because of momentary brain fart.

My cousin did the same thing a few years ago to his brand new clubs. His wife had just given them to him as an anniversary present. His didn't survive....

He'll never live that down though. Every time we see him he gets the question "Run across any good clubs lately?"

(I wish I had his game!)

Scary stuff to almost lose your clubs in that way.

I don't have nearly that much money invested, but with the recent investments I certainly have something more of a stake in my clubs now. Now yesterday I joined up with a twosome, they were riding and I was walking with my bag. Anyhow at the 18th hole, the one fellow offered that they could take my bag alon on the cart, if I wanted a break from it.

I replied quickly, "It's okay, I like the exercise."

And I do, but I also had this wicked paranoid thought go fluttering through my head, "Man, what if they just took off in the cart and tried to make a break for it with my clubs!" Not to mention they would have had my wallet then too, as I tuck it into the bag so I don't have overloaded pockets out on the course.

I can see it now. 20 years from now I'll be like Gollum, crooning over my preciousssessss.

3, but it sure seems like more when they get underfoot.

Hit one of them with a sandwedge last night when I was practising my 1/4 swing. Didn't hurt her but I shanked my shot.

I got a little nervous myself leaving my bag outside the clubhouse for a few minutes to grab some quick lunch. It would be well over $2000 to replace my equipment. If I owned a house I would definitely have them listed under my homeowners policy. I used to leave my clubs in the trunk when I had a car. I wouldn't even think of doing that now, I won't even leave them in my basement.

Get a load of these...two of them belong to my next door neighbors but they are in my house all the time.

That's about 310 pounds of dog you see there with a commensurate amount of dog hair.

The problem with these: if I trip over them - I do substantial bodily harm to myself while the dogs smile happily the entire time....

Hey! They're Labs. What do you expect? I'm just trying to figure out how you got a picture of them laying down. My 2 won't stand still long enough for a picture. (I can't even spell "BALL" around them.)

I have goldens and my young one is the same way. I use to be able to hit wedges in the back yard until I got her. I gave up on hitting balls and just hit pine cones for her to chase and destroy.

Hey Cholly:

I started a game with a nine-iron and a tennis ball in my back yard with my female when she was 3 months old...We've been playing it ever since and she is now 8 years old. We play fetch and I don't get slobber all over my hands. Also keeps her in pretty good shape - not too fat.

So about 4 years ago, we moved into this house and the labs from next door came right over. I got out the nine-iron/tennis balls and we started up...my back yard is two acres of dense woods and I usually blast the ball back there and let them hunt it for a few minutes.

To get the dogs into a frenzy, all I have to do is walk into the room with a golf club in my hand...the barking is outrageous...
