Has anyone ever entered a Long Drive Competition?

My range is having the local Long Drive Competition next month. Three age ranges; I would be in the Senior Division.

For sure, I would not win, but I'm thinking it might be fun. $40 for 6 balls.

Anyone ever tried one?

Do you know the difference between a BMW and a porcupine? The porcupine has its' pricks on the outside.

I was thinking about trying the Pinnacle Exception accurate driving challenge. I can put one out @ 320 with my best drive but that is about 30-40 yds. short of what the guys my age (29) would be putting up for best.

Are you serious? 360 yards?!

I'm similar to you in as much as I can knock it too 320 yards if I scream it, but I can comfortably rely on about 280 (straight) and I'm 28 and I could not get another yard out of my drives. The good players I know who are club pro level and hit bigger than me tend to just be bigger with their irons and not much past me with a driver

Give me another 3 months and I'll have it

I figure I can hit 320 4 out of 5 times so in a few more months I should be out to 350 1 out of 6.

Hey Doc,

Do they have a women's division? Let me know what the longest for the girls is so I have something to work towards

If internet golf forums are anything to go by, they should be filled with Long drive champions.

I think there are 5 divisions: Juniors, Ladies, Open, Seniors, Super Seniors.

Go to www.longdrivers.com

Current women's champion is Stacey Shinnick at 311 yards 21 inches (and whose picture is very nice)

Current Senior is 366 yards, so I might as well save my $40. I'll go watch instead.

I once drove from Central TX to Wilkesboro Penn. in two days. That's about the longest drive I've had.

I could hit it 400 no problem, but I choose to keep it in play at under 250 yards. I like to challenge myself.

You also have to consider the longer shafts. I played with an older guy today (about early 60's and 5'6") He was playing a 47.5 in. shaft and putting it out @ 290. He also started slicing like a bastard and there was no stopping it on the last 6 holes. I put it on the fringe on a 316 yarder and to @ 100 yds. away on a 411yd. par 4 but that was the best I had on a day just under 40 degrees.

I've gone to the RE/Max Long Drive Championship in Mesquite but my personal best of around 350 yards is a minimum of 30 yards too short (you get no run on the grid in Mesquite for some reason it is almost all carry). Sean won in the evening when it is cooler with 377 but some of the folks during the day were banging it 400+. The Seniors like Bobby Wilson and Gerry James hit it to around 400 during the day and about 360-370 at night.

PM me if you want more info.
