Selecting a shaft..

To avoid posting some long thread.. I'll just try & keep it simple: does anyone with a decently fast swing (about 110mph w/ a driver) use a regular flex shaft?

I have tried everything I can think of in my swing, and I can't keep from hitting this god-awful slice... it's uuuuugly folks.

The shaft likely has nothing to do with this problem.. I don't have an ego problem and could care less whether I'm using a lady's shaft or the stiffest thing on the planet. I just want to straighten this thing out...

This is a tough call. More than likely, it's not the shaft, it's your swing. Before thinking of switching equipment, maybe go get a one hour lesson. It would be worth your time and effort over changing out shafts at random.

I have ~110mph swing when I'm within myself. I use a stiff flex, tipped shaft in my driver. I have a friend that swings nearly 120, and he uses a regular. It's all individual....

Good luck with the lesson.

Thanks for the reply. I have 3 different drivers I'm trying. All have stiff shafts and it's the same result with every one of them (all 3 are different lofts: 8.5, 9.5, 11 (yikes, 11!).

I have tried everything I can think of, but it looks like I may have to bite the bullet and pay for a lesson. Usually my Dad & one of his good friends (who was basically my golf coach for 5 years) can get me squared up & fixed, but since I now live 12 hours away, that isn't really possible.

I'm likely just leaving my clubface slightly open at impact.. but man I can't square it up to save my life. Sometimes it just takes another person's view I guess. I wish I had a video camera too... that might help me spot what I can't see when I'm the one swinging.

A big banana is usually from an over-the-top move (inside on the backswing, outside on the downswing) which leaves the face open and quick hands.

The more loft you have on your driver, the more accurate you should be. If the 9.5 and the 11* look the same, it's your swing, plain and simple.

A lesson is worth it's weight in gold. You often take so much away from one that it's not for years that you realize what an impact it is.

Another thing to try is to slow your swing down. The goal in golf is to hit it straight - not straight into the trees! Try a more controlled approach. Have you the same results with your 3 wood? Often times, people have a helluva time hitting the driver (mental block, less loft, ect). My grandfather uses a "Duece", 12* 2 wood. He hits that thing a mile. Yet when he gets a Warbird driver in his hands, he couldn't land it in the fairway to save his life.

Golf is a frustrating game, but sometimes it takes someone with a little knowledge to help you break through that initial barrier. Then you're on your way!

Get out to that range and have the pro spend an hour with you. It'll be worth it.

If the ball is slicing and still going low then your shaft could probably to stiff
