custom fitted clubs

Does anyone have custom fit clubs?

I'm considering going & getting measured (swing speed, length, etc) for a set of irons. I've always felt I could have a slightly better game if my irons were 1/4 - 1/2" longer. I also am unsure of what shaft flex I should really be using, etc. I've been playing for about 11 years and have always just bought a set 'right off the shelf'.

A couple of the local places seem to do a good job with custom fitting, but they use 'generic' brand clubs that are copies of callaways, etc. Are these generic clubs ever worth a darn?

For what it's worth... as I said, I'm not a beginner. I'm not sure what my handicap would be if I played consistently. Over the past year, I've probably averaged about 82, with my best round being a 70 about 10 months, and bad rounds being high 80s.

For what it is worth I played a round today with couple of scratch golfers, I'm about a 15 handicap and the guys I played with said that custom fitted clubs make your contact more pure and take about 5-6 strokes off instantly. I think it will be my next big purchase.

haha.. I don't expect to have 5 or 6 strokes shaved off instantly. I'm just looking for a little more consistency with my irons. Of course, that wont do me any good since I cant get within 3 miles of the fairway anyway.

Nyper,

If you are shooting that well, you probably have a repeatable swing, and custom fit clubs may help you make good contact consistently.

Most places don't "make" you buy your clubs from them. They wish you would of course. Most places will modify your regular clubs. Of course, if you need any lie adjustments, you will most likely need forged clubs.

It is much easier to custom fit irons if you are "starting from scratch". i.e., looking to buy a new set.

Just make sure they take a dynamic fitting, and have them spine-align your shafts also.

i had my driver and 3 wood custom fitted about 5 months ago. one of the best purchases i've made for my golf game. i'm hitting drives longer and straighter than i could've ever imagined, and i'm just so consistent with my 3 wood it scares me sometimes. together they dice up any par 5.

i've got a set of irons on the way to my house that i intend to have custom fitted for new shafts. can't wait to get those done and get them on the course.

go for it, you certainly won't regret it. probably one of the best investments you can make. having clubs not fit for you can cause you to ingrain swing faults which can lead to inconsistency,
good luck, let us know how it goes.

Thanks for the advice guys. I think I will make some calls and see if I can just get someone to re-work my current irons. I like them & don't really want to buy new ones. I'll post a report if I get it done.

It sounds like custom-fitted clubs are the way to. I might have to look into them also.
Thanks
