Here is something interesting

Stolen straight out of Golf magazine, on approch shots from between 50-75 yards the average Pro leaves himself 16 feet from the hole. Think about that next time you hit one in onto the green. Here I have been kicking myself because more than half the time, I leave myself outside Dave Pelz's golden 8 feet, I feel a lot better now that I know that on average from that distance ONLY Jim Furyk is inside that 8 feet, with an average leave of 7'8", the next best guy on avereage is Fred Couples at 8'8".
The point is that I am going to be feeling alot better about myself out there because 7-8 out of 10 I can get inside 30 feet from that distance, and that means I am getting there.

I think the thing to do mostly is work first on inside 30 yards, then work your way back out. Or you could do the old Dave Pelz short game handicap test, and find where in the short game your losing the most strokes, and work on that.

I've been doing the putting tests, and I've found a huge weak area, probably for putts of 4 to 10 feet in length. On 3 foot putts I sink around 7 out of 10, which equates to a 9 handicap. On putts of 6 feet, the best I've done is 3 out of 10, and it's more likely going to be 2 out of 10, absolutely horrible compared to the 3-foot putts. So I got to work on those 6-footers and figure out how to get those in the hole, and I'd bet I would shoot at least 2 strokes better every round.
