Howdy fellas...Sorry for the away time. I have hit about 300 balls this week. No improvement. What I am noticing is my problem could very well be hand placement on the backswing. The funny thing is that my 3W is actually coming around now. My address with the driver and FWs is more of an upright stance with very little knee-bend. My backswing comes behind and the shaft (from a straight forward veiw) goes through my ears (as if you were waching my draw back). As I said, I bought a cheapie set of clubs to test the waters, and I have since cracked my 3I. With my 4I I am hitting just shy of 200. With my 3W, I am reaching about 220-230. So I can feel that my shot is definitely improving. However, I am now noticing that the clubface on my woods are coming through open. When I push to hit (which I am trying to stop that and get used to just releasing the club), my club comes through open and I see the ball trail off at a 45* angle from where I was aiming....yes, it travels through everyone else's line of sight. Any ideas on how to correct the driver club face issue? Also, when my face is correct through my swing, my drives are carrying a TON of loft. I bet my drives are hitting 150 yards UP and only 240yds OUT. It looks like I hit a homerun and not a drive. Again, you guys are awesome and if any of you live in Nashville, look me up and you can show me what I am doing wrong!

I figured it out. If I stand more upright, I'm not pulling up on the club to keep it from hitting the ground. I stand up right, turn with my shoulders, keep my head still, and uncoil my torso and not swing with my arms. I was hitting consistent 260yd drives straight. I just got tired of bending so much at the knees. Now, if I hit one off the heel or side, I know it and adjust my stance and POW...right in da kissa!

Well dammit...now my transitions are not working. If I go to swinging my driver, I get into a method of hitting just fine. If I pickup my 7I, I can't hit it worth crap. Any thoughts?

jj83, get an instructor to watch your swing, try not to be nervous and swing normaly (don't try to fix anything just swing as you always have) let him tell you what is wrong. A good instructor will know what your problem is right away.

This is the best advice you can get. Until you take a lesson play the clubs you are comfortable with. Say for instance your playing a 400 yard hole. If you are comfortable with your 4I, hit it off the tee. If you hit that club about 190 that will leave you 210 to the hole. Play that club again and get to the front of the green. Then your chip and putt for par are right in front of you. When I first started playing I thought every hole was a birdie opportunity. In all reality every hole is not a birdie opportunity. I decided to embrace being a bogey golfer, once I achieved that goal I embraced becoming a par golfer. Now I try to pick my holes. I know what sets up well for my slight fade and I try to score on holes that suit my game. Embracing the fact that golf takes a lifetime to master can really help your game.

Just a side note, been years and years on this thread. I finally figured out my issue about 1.5 years ago. hehe, I simply address the ball at the toe. I tee up high, so when it comes up to the ball, it is dead center. By teeing up at the toe, it works fine. My problem the entire time was heeling the ball = big slice.

ROFL ... that [strike]put[/strike] putt quote is hilarious, but true. Want to know why? Remember, this was all beginner days now. Ready for it? Here it goes:

I just stood in the same place putting across the green for hours. HAHA. That was genious way back then. Incredible. Whew....okay, I'm crying now, seriously. What an overconfident dolt I am.
