What a week in Scotland

What an experience !, just got back from God's 2nd favourite country having played St. Andrews New Course, Jubilee, Eden & Carnoustie - 4 days hard golf and 3 nights in an international drinking contest .

Ya some how know it's gonna be your week, when a 30 yard bump and run on the 1st trickles to 2 feet for a kick in bird to start - 4 more duly arrived (2 of them at 225 & 211 yard par3's). I'm organising pics at the moment, will post as I go along - suffice to say ..

" The winner of the gold medal and champion golfer of the year is ME !!

Then 24 hours later, a keg of guinness and 4 hours sleep, Carnoustie opened her skies for us ..

Hey Dave....will ya do a bit of a 'travel log" for us please? Let us know how you traveled from Ireland, where your accommodations were and how much you paid, what the weather was like and your score for each round? Also want to hear about the wagers and outcomes....more photos also...

I'm particularly interested in the post Golf "Ireland vs. Scotland and the rest of the world" drinking experiences and of course any unhealthy kebab / curry / pie quandaries. Did you try any Smokies in Carnoustie? Did you make it to the Jigger?

As for the travel "log" bit, just stick to the golf, LOL.

Howya Bravo, yep leave that with me, as soon as I go home I'll give a blow by blow ... in the meantime here's 2 more pics ... the 1st one is the 1st on the Old Course you can see the green in the distance, the swilcan burn is the darker shade of green. The 2nd pic is the 1st on the New Course. I hit a good enough drive, passed the bush on the left and over the cart path, left me 30 yards or so to a green elevating about 5 feet at the front. A little P/W chip and run to 2 feet, saw my St. Andrew's experience off to an opening bird .

Someday....someday for me.

I played on Sunday morning with a lawyer friend who has been both to Scotland and Ireland. He's played most of the Open rota courses in Scotland as well as the top courses in Ireland as well.

He (along with everyone else I know who has been to both countries) wants to return to.....Ireland.

Someday.

Are you actually trying to tell me that there is part of Scotland where you can play golf without getting rained on.

Have a great time Eracer, we didn't play The Old Course for the simple reason that the course opened fully on the Friday (without mats), but the course was being played the wrong way round - i.e from 1st tee to 17th green. Seemingly this was the way the course was set out originally 300 odd years ago. But we decided not to bother, we wanted to play as we'd seen it on TV, and take on the road hole, whiff it 15 times to get out of the road bunker score a 19 and drink to the memory. Hopefully, I will have plenty more opportunities to give it a go. btw I read in some pamhlet, that the links trust are gonna alternate the course set out this year, it might be worth your while ensuring that you get to play it right way around.

Anyways you'll have a fantastic experience, you just can't help but tingle as you come around the bay and set sight on the old lady
