Three of a kind.

Had an odd thing happen Sunday.

At the end of a crappy round I was about 10' off the green on 18 after my 3rd shot. It's a short par 5 so I figured I had a chance at par.

Made a real nice chip and it went in for bird. The second guy in our threesome chipped next and his dropped too. Of course we were joking with the third guy telling him what a loser he would be to miss but he chipped in for a birdie as well.

I don't what the odds are but I've never seen three people chip in for bird on the same hole.

That's closer to normal for me too. And if we had all mangaged an up and down I wouldn't have been too surprised. It was just all three of chipping in for birds that was crazy.

A nice end to an otherwise crappy round. Even with that hole I was 7 over my index.

I have yet to get a birdie at all

I have been close, a few times, but after blowing a few 5 or 6 foot putts. I have to wait until the gods are smiling.

Par 5's are key for you Dave.

Hit your 2 longest clubs to get as close as you can to the green in 2. The shorter approach for your GIR will give you the best opportunity for your "first" bird.

You may want to try a different strategy after that, but in my opinion there's just no replacement for power if you want to make birdies.

So I shouldn't look forward to that happening again I guess.

Had something simlar but not quite as good happen in a doubles knockout last year. Myself and my partner had missed the green to the right about 5 yards or so. The opponents, one was out of the hole (OOB) the other middle of green in two about 25 footer left. I chipped first went in for par, my playing parnter then hit pretty much the same shot in for birdie, it was like an instant replay. Opponent missed his putt for the half, we still lost the match though!!!
