Would you enter this tournament?

This upcoming Saturday is our 'season opener'. I am struggling with my decision to enter. Here are the facts...

1) Entry cost is $60USD. If I decide to rent a cart/buggy, this will cost $14 more...

2) Friday night, there is a pretty nice party with open bar and heavy hors d' oeuvres for two hours. The president of the Golf Channel will give a presentation and we get to meet a new player on the Nationwide Tour - Gary Christian who is being sponsored by our club. He will be playing on Saturday...(The Nationwide Tour in the U.S. is the professional tour that is one level below the USPGA Tour. Most of the players on the USPGA now came out of the Nationwide Tour).

Interestingly, Gary Christian is an Englishman...

http://www.pgatour.com/players/intro/149527

3) The format is team Stableford with four players to a team. The teams are determined by the professional staff by pairing A,B,C, and D players together. There is no written definition of what an A or B player is from a handicap standpoint. The professional staff said they will determine this once the entries have been received. There will be some pretty good merchandise prizes, but they are unannounced because (once again) we don't know how many players will enter. If you had 60 players - you would have a pot of $3600 though.

In this regard, I haven't a clue as to who I would be playing with...I may get somebody I really like or somebody horrid.

4) Ten days ago, the superintendent did the "core aeration" on the greens with the substantial holes and sand on the top. Yesterday, the greens were pretty crappy with lots of bouncing about...

The fairways on the course are green now but they are tight. So the playing conditions are average at best...

What would you do?

I was thinking the same thing. The golf and potential prizes are just a bonus.

Next month Forest Hills is having a flighted amatuer open, whatever the heck that means. They will pay out money, but the 36 hole 2 day event will be $200 which includes a cart. Too steep for me the way I'm playing.

Flighted means the hackers are divided into groups of A,B,C and D

A flight would be your low handicappers and D flight would be you and me.

Do it. Your lucky. None of my friends have the slightest interest in golf. I play virtually every round by myself. I long for the day when I have a club to belong to and people to play a tourney with. Good luck.

Are you kidding?

How the heck are you going to win the US open like that?
Most public courses have mens leagues, join one!

I joined one 2 years ago....cost was $165 plus greens fees, winnings are pro shop credit....I won some cool stuff last year (I almost covered my greens fees).

Do it....you know it makes sense.

Tourney's every weekend, one is a statewide comp....have a look at my availble schedule.... http://www.quarryridge.com/clubs/men....html?pg=clubs

Play man! If you don't, you'll be kicking yourself until the season closer. Try to play well, but most of all, have fun. Won't the Stableford format kinda negate most of the handicaps anyway?
