SMT Nemesis gives more backspin??

I just stumbled by accident onto this article.
http://www.patryangolf.com/smoothfacedriver.htm

Here's a little resume for lazy readers

I initially thought that the smooth face of the Nemesis will provide less backspin, as some people told me, but it seems it isn't true....

But it's my understanding that the new balls and drivers do their best to eliminate spin altogether. Less spin means straighter shots. Less workability, but straight as they can be for the average golfer.

Distance is proportionate to the "hottness of the face" (to put it crudely) as well as the physical attributes of the ball being hit.

So wouldn't having a face that created more spin, such as the Nemesis quoted here, create more spin and therefore more opportunity for errant shots?

Am I way off base here?

The Nemesis, as I found out, has one sore point with its entirely smoothe face. Because of the lack of grooves, shots hit off of the toe or heel also lack the gear effect that corrects ball flight. So, the further from the center you hit, the (much) worse penalty you pay in direction.

As to the smoothe face = more spin-- interesting concept.

GoFlyers is an unknown quantity at this point
I think this is all relative. The Nemesis may put more spin on the ball then a rougher face flat driver but I would still think compared to a grooved face driver it is less... I know it has measured less backspin in a number of the articles I have seen but they were comparing same lofted drivers with and without grooves.

So true. But then, if smooth face creates more backspin like the Nemesis, how come the sweetspot of nowadays driver are smooth and bear no grooves?
One thing I'd like to know is how much backspin are we talking about? Is the spin created significant ?

So if drivers of nowadays have smooth faces, isn't this in fact "old news"? I mean, my Warbird and my GF's GBB ti have grooves, so wouldn't this be apparent to all new drivers (apart from the fact that faces have gotten thinner, of course.)

"All your bases are belong to us". So familiar. Video game?
