Who's Keeping Their Resolutions

Ok, so January has come and gone which means that most people's resolutions are also history.

For those of you that made one or more resolutions, who's still on track, who's fallen of the wagon and who's forgotten what they resolved to do in the first place.

I'll go first.

My golf resolutions have suffered because of the weather. 9 holes in three weeks is no way to improve. This weekend is suppose to be nice so I should be able to get back on track. FWIW my goals/resolutions have to do with the mental side of game. Tension and Tempo is this years theme.

My only other resolution has to do with fitness and so far I'm on track. 7lbs in January and I've convinced my doctor to let me have all of 05 to deal with cholesterol before trying meds. What he doesn't know is that my workout program has more to do with getting my lower back in shape for golf, but what he doesn't know won't hurt him.

Ok, your turn.

Each year I have one New Year's resolution and I Always meet it.

I resolve to gain ten pounds.

It works!!!

Seriously, I have an informal "goal" this year of trying to get my index down to 6.0. I stand at 8.1 now and was as low as 7.0 last summer.

I think I could go as low as 5-6 if I had the time to practice and get more lessons.

KEPT MINE

After getting a wee bit larger over the Christmas holidays I decided to lose some weight. After my first 4 weeks of my new eat less chips, fries etc etc diet I have dropped 13 pounds. Right on target for a healthy weight loss. Once I get walking the course 5 times a week I should shed some more weight.

Heck I even bought an excersise bike! But I ain't wearing it out by any means
Years ago I went on this diet prescribed by the dietcian at the hospital. Dropped 50 lbs over the winter. When I went golfing in the spring I had the biggest DUCK HOOK TEE SHOTS you have ever seen! Figured out that since I was not swinging around my fat gut anymore was causing me to hook! Slowly turned that hook into a nice draw. As the weight came back over the past few years the draw slowly went away! Hmmmmmm

Next up, quit smoking then I can buy a 2005 Mustang!

I tried giving up sex, that lasted one nigh

I actually resolved many years ago to make no new years resolutions.....

I did go on a diet though and have lost 15 lbs so far.

I made a resolution to not lose any weight and be lazy. Hey, look at me!!

I gave up on resolutions. Something else usually comes along when I least expect it.

I'm trying to do a few more things "right" this year.

For non-golf, I've been consistent with wanting to go to the gym every night. I've been less consistent with actually going. I have gone semi regularly, but sometimes school just gets in the way. The other thing that I've been good with is to keep cooking at home. My gf and I have worked pretty hard to keep cooking and not eating out every day. This has saved us a ton of dough and is probably a bit more healthy as well.

My golf resolutions are pretty simple: gain flexibility (finally took the time to track down a big list of stretches that I have to start doing the other day) and drop my index. Technically, I wouldn't have a proper index as I don't golf at any of the same courses enough, but I approximate it using the Golf Channel's program online. I'm about a 24 right now, and intend to get down to about 10 by the end of the summer. I feel like Tiger last year..."I'm so close!" I'm working with one of my two pros on that, and I'm gonna work exclusively with my other pro on short game come the nicer weather. I have a combined total of about 5 hours of lessons between the two of them, so that should help me a good deal. Basically, the goal is to break 90 by the Ides of March (I've hit a lot of low 90s, and one 90, but never under) and 80 by the end of the summer. I'm confident I can do it.

Practice can be really frustrating when things aren't going well though.

That is an ambitious goal. If you achieve it - it will be a very rare feat indeed.

I enjoy watching "projects" such as this. Would you post your scores week to week and your lesson progress so we can follow??

Bravo is right about that being a very ambitious goal. I hope you achieve it but don't let it consume you or your ability to just enjoy the game. In other words, don't measure your success on the course strictly by your hc.

For me at least, it wasn't until I stopped worrying about my scores and started concentrating on my swing that my scores actually dropped.

In any case, good luck & keep us posted. Your young and that's a real advantage.

My goal is to involve my son with my golf more. He is developing a genuine love for the game, and I want to encourage that. It'll be a great way for us to keep things in common, keep the relationship strong and (hopefully) to use golf as an illustration of life and instill character from a young (he's 8 as of last week) age. Common ground is something I NEVER had with my parent, and I'm not going to fall into that trap with him.

That's awesome bd. I know if I have a little rascal some day, I'll be hoping for the same thing.

And yes, I know my goal's ambitious, but I'm not afraid of not reaching it - shoot for the stars and you'll at least get to the moon.

Nice goal bd. Just don't get too serious about golf with your son, or he'll end up hating the game. The main thing is for him to have fun. The only exception to the rule was Tiger Woods and his dad.... But hey
