Stupid, stupid, stupid question.

I'm embarrassed to even ask this question, but you guys always seem to enjoy a good laugh.

I haven't walked a round of golf without a pull cart in about 20 years. Thought I'd give it a try with one of these new-fangled (that's a term you learn when you turn 45) dual-harness bags. Bought a cheap one at Ed Watts, loaded my clubs, etc. and took off this morning for nine holes.

In the shop, the bag went and came off easily. Weighted with my stuff, though, I couldn't get the bag over both shoulders. I adjusted the straps every way possible, trying to lengthen the straps, but no luck.

I've got fairly broad shoulders (okay, I'm fat) and limited flexibility, but I could not get the bag on without it pinching my shoulder blades uncomfortably together. More than once, I almost dumped my clubs out trying to put the bag on or take it off. I gave up trying after abour four holes when I almost dislocated my left shoulder trying to take the bag off. The guy cutting grass must have almost fallen off his tractor he was probably laughing so hard. I don't know because I was too embarrassed to look at him.

I ended up draping one strap over my shoulder, but the dual-hinged bags don't seem to be balanced for carrying old-school style.

I watch people put these bags on easily all the time. I've looked on-line for instruction for dummies. Does anyone have any advice on how to easily put on and take off one of these harnesses?

I've never had this problem. Right arm in and left arm afterwards. Works like a charm everytime. And left arm first and right arm to follow when taking it off.

Also, when adjusting it to "fit", open it up as large as it will go. Then, have someone adjust the fit for you while you're wearing it. It's easier to test for on and off then.

Thanks, Rock.

Not sure what the problem is. Right arm in, then left makes sense, but for some reason, it just didn't work. I think the left arm strap is twisting. Thought I'd have my wife spot me tonight putting it on and then we can adjust it.

If I were female I guess I'd have to go bra-less.

BD, I'm guessing your bag is a piece of shit with shitty straps.

If you pop into any golf store, take a look at an Ogio bag or something with decent straps and you'll see how easy it is.

Or get one with this strap system:

Even easier!

Same advice here, I have broader shoulders and let the right arm hold all the weight and just loop my left hand under the strap and flip it off, then grab the handle on the bag to lower it down. Same picking it up.

Make sure it is weighted right so the right side is slightly higher and makes it easier to take off and put on.

Don't feel bad. I did dump my clubs. I don't even bother with the damn thing anymore, it's like putting on a straightjacket. Half the time I just carry my bag in one hand and do forearm curls with it walking down the fairway.

I have an Adams stand bag. The harness on that thing is awful hard to get into too. If I'm just going a short distance, I just drape it over one shoulder. If I have to put it al the way on, I have a hard time reaching far enough backward to get the left arm in the strap.

I like the Ogio Schling system but can't justify nearly $200 for a bag. I hope someone comes out with a similar system to retrofit other bags.

I have the same problem you do, My stand bag was about 80 bugs and the straps suck big time. I just deal with it. Buy a better bag and it will be easy. It is worth it too. The better bags make walking easier.

I feel better knowing that others have had similar problems, but I think we worked it out. My wife watched me put it on last night and we discovered the strap was backwards somehow and twisting. We straightened it out and now it seems to work fine, at least in my garage.

I should have taken a closer look at it on the course, but it was just easier to sling one strap over my shoulder and than take the time to figure it out. I'm just lazy.

Thanks for the input.

Izzo makes aftermarket straps for those bags. They're super ergonomic and easy to adjust.
