I'm going to the open!!!

Well ... it's actually the Canadian Open in Hamilton! I won't be doing any golfing however ... my wife will be with me and I'll be attempting to get as many good photographs as possible. I am hoping to do a series of charcoal paintings of some of the Pros next winter [when I'm locked inside by the brutal weather!].

Sorry there MG! Believe me, I'd loooooove to get over there to the British Open sometime!!

I am so looking forward to next month's trip to Scotland. As much for the golf as for the fun of drinking a few pints and trying to make sense of the native-speak.

"getting it for choicers"

"should be a great steam"

That's great stuff. And I'm not making a joke at anyone's expense here, I promise. I think it's amazing how the US and the UK are so closely related, and yet the language has so many differences. Just like I'm amazed with the different dialects within our countries.

I really think I'm going to have a great time mixing it up with the locals.

Seconded. You won't believe some of the "English" being spoken in some parts of Scotland, though. Even I can't understand some of them, and being on the north coast of N.I., we talk very, very similar to them in parts. It's like Trainspotting all over again....

If time in your diary permits it, guys, consider taking a few days off and going to work there for the few days. It ain't the greatest amount of money - was £100 in '98 & '99, but that got you in all week, and the work on the 4 days was relatively straight-forward with not too many hours involved. You looked as if you were of high authority, too
I remember doing Greenside Control - receiving stats from those walking behind a certain group and inputing the data into a handheld machine and having to walk right across a fairway in front of hundreds upon hundreds. Everyone looking at me thinking I was some dood of very high authority. lol.
It was really good craic, although its a hard job drinking the bit out, then getting up early to head to the course. I can recall boking under the scoreboard stand at the 14th at Birkdale. Truely shocking......but funny when looking back at it !!
