Utter nightmare

In the grand scheme of things, golf means nothing, health, family and all that, but, ffs,it still hurts. My first 3 competetive rounds of the season, over the last 2 weeks.Greens have been scarified and top dressed, utter nightmare.

82 with 42 putts
83 with 40 putts
85 with 41 putts

After the 85,today,I just want to walk away and never play a comp again, and handicaps can just **** right off.I am currently convalescing in the busom of my family and I would appreciate some sympathy and peace and quiet.

If you could sort out the putting, that would be brilliant shooting!

Whar are you doing? Long, short, under break, over break, pull, push? What's you stance like? Do you have a putting routine to which you strictly adhere? Do you step off long putts? What kind (s) of putter?

The greens I play on suck as well, but most of my misses are my fault.

If you're struggling with your putting, you might want to check out this Golf Magazine article from October, 2005.

What about the lesson and the new wand? Skip material? (Can you recycle flat sticks!??!). Hey we all got our troubles kiddo. Just be patient and you'll be sinking them from all angles soon enough. It's just some temporary head garbage. Kiss your kids goodnight, shag the wife and wake up with tomorrow another day!!!

Dave, putting always comes and goes. The less you worry about it the sooner you're troubles will go away. I wish I could shoot 82 with 42 putts that's for sure.

That's a very cool idea actually, and it's quite like the quiet eye, it just eliminates returning your gaze to the back of the ball.

Several of us tried this last year and it seemed to only work for a short period. It is a good change when you're struggling though.

Get your stroke back on track and go shopping, or testing. I learned from Wirehair that I need a balanced putter for my straight back and through stroke. I checked out almost every putter made by Odyssey, VooDoo as well as what they had for Camerons. I put the putters up on the ledge to check toe-hang. The ones I putted best with had none. The original 2ball was the best of the bunch for me. I'm on the lookout for one, so if you have one don't smash it.

I always get a good laugh out of people talking about putting tips....

"read the gold magazine from back in blah, blah, blah...."

Don't listen to that, listen to this....

All putting is really about, is hitting your "target spot", which should be just about 5 inches in front of the ball. Now surely you can hit something 5 inches away right?

As easy as this sounds...almost nobody short of single digit handicappers do this.

If you watch some pros during their post round interviews, you will often hear this...

Question: "So Tiger, how did you feel about you putting today?"

Tiger: "Well the ball wasn't finding the hole today, but I only missed my spot once, and that's about as good as i can do."

maybe you line up your ball with a line? If that's the case, the line should have a target about 5 inches away right? So just make a sold stroke, and hopefull it goes in.

The biggest mistake I see amateurs make, is tinkering with their putting stroke. Now true, some do need work, but putting is mostly mental. Even a two year old can pull a putter back and swing it through nice and straight....you should be able to do this AT LEAST 8/10 times.

Some days they will all drop...others none will..

BUT ALL YOU NEED TO WORRY ABOUT IS HITTING YOUR SPOT.

P.S. Unless of course you can hit your spot every time, but just suck at reading greens.

it's true, being able to hit your spot is big when i comes to making putts (assuming you've read it right), but speed plays a huge part in it as well. you've got no chance of making a putt if you don't know how hard you need to hit it. some you may be short, others may blast right by. putting, for me anyway, is largely a confidence thing as well. i can see after having 3 40 putt rounds that your confidence may be shattered. just take some time on the putting green, putting just short putts so you can rebuild some of that lost confidence.

Putt one-handed for a while.

If you have an old Bulls-Eye laying around, putt left-handed for a while.

Hell, use the toe of a five-iron to putt for a while.

Try anything drastic to break the pattern you're in.

I do feel your pain.
