Drills For Cutting Across the Ball

I have not been able to get the ball to the hole the past few rounds and I have noticed I am cutting across the ball very bad. I was wondering about things I could do to get out of cutting across the ball.

Also another reason why I cant stick to cutting across the ball is that the greens I play at are slow.

You need a drill to slice the ball?

I like to warm up by laying an iron down facing straight and practice swinging 2-3 inches in front of it. I have been much better after warming up like this.

okay I messed around today and putted a little better, but distance wise I am horrible. When I overcompensate to get the ball to the hole I cutt across it horribly. I have never had any problems putting on the slow greens before though. I will try that out tommorow.

If it's putting where you're cutting across the ball, there's an easy drill to get your path back on track. Even guys like Tiger use it.

Go to the practice green with two tees, and some balls obviously. Pick out a slightly uphill, 4-5 foot put with no break. Put your putter in the address position, squared to the hole and place one tee 1/4" outside the heel of the putter, one 1/4" outside the toe. Place the ball smack dab in the middle of the two and practice your putting "swinging through the gate". If your path is a little off you'll bang into the tees. Groove this until nothing else feels natural.

What I mentioned is a swing path drill. When I cut across my divots are going left and my ball is going left to right slicing . If I were to swing out to in like that I would hit the shaft of the iron I lay down.

Just remember PILS (pure in line stroke)put simply the putter goes straight back, the putter goes straight through no variables, not much to go wrong. the further the ball needs to go the longer the stroke.
