Shoot your age - minus five

I went to play at my place today. Our weekend group sometimes plays on Thursday afternoons at 2:00. I played better and carded an 80.

Before we teed off, one of the guys asked if I had heard about another member who shot 8 under par recently. This was my first time to hear about it.

Last year, I wrote a post about a guy who in consecutive months, had two holes in one and holed a shot from the fairway for eagle on a par 4. This is a guy at our place.

Right after I heard about this score...up he walks onto the practice green and I ask him about it.

He told me he went to Waynesville NC two weeks ago to play in a southeastern US seniors tournament. The course plays at about 6000 yards with a par of 70. He had 10 pars and 8 birdies. Told me he missed another birdie putt of 3-4 feet.

This guy is 67 years old. He doesn't look it in the face (very babyfaced and fair) but by no means does he have an athletic build. He kind of looks like a doughboy with a big middle. But he has a swing like butta.

He told me that as he stood on the 17th tee, he told his opponent he was going to shoot his age by a big, big margin. He then proceeded to par 17 and birdie 18 to shoot 62.

I asked him onetime about his game and he told me to always shoot straight at the pin.

Unfortunately this advice has never translated into my game personally.

slick!! 62 for anyone is awesome.

you should have that guy check into that "shoot your age" tourney (actually half ad for a retirement comunity ) that had palmer and player in it a few weeks ago.

http://www.shootyourage.com/

was a kinda slick format - once your score exceeded your age you were out. I think Player was out of it after 17 having shot over 70 by then. I think palmer shot 3 under his age 83? winner was 87 year old who shot an 81 for six under his age . course was 6250yd par 72.

I know a few old guys around here that are close to 80 and can still break 70 by a bit on a good day. I have to admit that getting older makes it easier tho, guy my dad plays with each week beats his age by about 6 or 7 every week. He shoots about 85 and is 92

Like Farquod, the only way I could shoot a 30 is a a 9-hole par 27 course.
