PGA Tour Partners Club?????

So I'm checking my mail yesterday and I see a letter from the PGA Tour. I'm thinking this is pretty strange as I haven't directly signed up on their site or done anything official through them. Inside is a copied letter from Tom Lehman. It goes on to talk about the "Partners Club" and how it is reserved for those who are truly dedicated to the game of golf. It says that if I return the pre addresed postcard within 10 days I will become an official member. The benefits of becoming a member are, a monthly publication and "Free Golf Equipment". It goes on to say that they know I am not just an ordinary golfer. This is reserved for those who spend an above average amount of time dedicated to the game and improving their skills. I thought that sounded about right. I spend atleast an hour and a half at the range and practice green everyday. Obviously more on the three days a week where I actually play. The letter says that they get a large amount of equipment from manufacturers who want the stuff to be tested. The fee is $1 dollar a month. I figure even if I never see so much as a divot tool out of the deal atleast I get the publication every month. That alone is toilet material that is well worth a dollar. Has anyone else heard of such a gimmick and am I a sucker for believing that I may get free equipment out of this?

I joined up a few months ago and haven't regretted it so far. One little perk is a $10 rebate check 4 times a year when you send in a greens fee receipt and a signed scorecard. And they do pay up: I'm depositing a $10 check today.

Awesome, I fully expected to hear that I am getting cheated out of a dollar a month. I did the scartchoff on the card and got "Both" so that means they are going to send me the rebate offer and Maxfli balls. Can't wait.

Oh, yeah, they did send the 3 pak of Noodles. I've already donated them to the squirrels at various courses.

I figured it would be Noodles. I was holding out hope that it would be a sleeve of Blackmaxs. My ball of choice these days. I guess you haven't seen any free gear yet?

I can't answer for Highdraw, but the only time I'm scratch is when I have an itch.

Over here in the USA it's called being on mailing lists.

The PGA has a branch of spies and officers much like a combination of the FBI/CIA... they hang out at local golf courses and report their findings directly to the PGA so that they can make special mail-order offers.

LOL... well it sounded good when I wrote it.

I got one but didn't join. The other one is that USGA thing where they send you the sticker and note pad. I got 3 of those for some reason.

I was playing a local Par 3 course as a single and hooked up with another single due to slow play ahead of us. He had a Partners Tag on bag. The guy couldn't break 90 on a Par 3 course. I don't think they give a rats ass how good you are. Guy said he got balls, a glove and coupons.

I ordered something from TGW.com last summer and immediately started getting all kinds of golf related junk mail including a once a week mailer from the Partners Club. I used the bitchin notepad to scratch notes on by the phone and tossed the rest. I googled it the first time I got it and didn't see much positive about it so I decided to pass.

It's all marketing deals. Companies pay a lot of money to get your name, adress, email ect. Getting the info on target market consumers is gold to these companies. Once you've signed up for something they can resell your info all over the place. Now who's a better target market than us semi-hackers looking for that magic club, ball, training aid, ect. to make us golfers. Now if only we could just buy a swing.....

There is not golf ability requirement to join the PGA Partners. $12 and your in. You do not even have to golf.
