Oh, I'm sure plenty of guys are capable of hitting a 9i 150. A lot depends on the clubs too. Some of the game improvement irons out there have ridiculously low lofts in the PW. The distance doesn't really matter as much as keeping that same tempo and knowing how far it goes. I suppose I am more accurate with a 9i than a 7i though.

For those that hit these clubs a short distance, just put it back in the stance and get a better, flatter and more powerful trajectory.

9i is 125 to 145,min max
Wedge 100 to 125,min max

9i ~ 135 yards
PW ~ 124 yards

Classic Irons: (Wilson Tour Balde FG-17's)

9i ~ 125 yards
PW ~ 110 yards

Good advice. I've been playing the ball a bit further back lately and hitting the 8-pw much better, longer, more accurate, more spin. Sometimes I actually almost look like I know what I'm doing.

PW - 130; 9-iron - 145.

It is funny caddying for Americans on my course. You tell them it is 128 to the front (on our second hole), roughly another 7 to the flag, uphill (plus 10 yards), and a 3-club wind into you. More often than not they proclaim "well I hit my 9-iron 135, so give me that !" Wronnnnnnnnng !!!!!

Andy

To true, I would have to go with my LW in that case.

i can hit the wedge 140 with an avg swing. if i wanna step on it a little more i can get it out to 150 - 155. 9 iron is 150, can step on it up to about 160 without having to really close it down to get more distance.

PW loft is 49* 9i is 44.5*

I myself hit the pw about 130, the nine about 145, my 56* about 110 tops. But what does it matter? The toughest shot to me is about 75 yards out with a bunker in front. I think getting the touch of a partial swing is the key.

Hit the 9i about 120-135
Hit the PW about 105-120

As mentioned above, smooth is the key for me with the scoring irons so I always try and swing well within my limits.

I like how people that think distance with the irons is not an advantage. It is kind of stupid in more ways than one. Golfer A is hitting an 9 iron into the green and Golfer B is hitting a 6 iron into the green. You be the judge. 9 or 6?

8i - 150
9i - 140
pw- 125
52*- 110
58*- 95

i go easier with the wedges than the short irons.

as said before playing a "punch" kind of shot gives more distance , but i get less accurate. i switched from that to what im doing now and went from 18-13/14 handicap, in just over a month.

i can get the pw to 145 or 150, and the gw around 125 but often pull it badly doing so

And what about Trevino,Player, and Tom Kite and Corey Pavin were both out driven by high handicappers when they were growing up,yet they still went onto to win US Opens. Its an age old arguement, but a good little 'un that hsa a gerat short game will ALWAYS beat a good big 'un that has a better long game,ALWAYS.Thats the beauty of golf.If you can't hit it very far, then work on your putting and be a club champion. But how mnay do?

The question you should have asked is 'of all you shorter hitters how mnay of you spend 50% of your practice time on putting'?
