Something I have always done, and it has won me a couple matches.

... and as mentioned before, and is a rule in match play. Make him play first when away and do not hesitate to switch clubs when you opponent is in his pocket for his next shot.

Outside of that, I tend to play alot of head games that work for me. If I am doing very well I get more talkative and friendly. Not gloating or anything, just friendly, but I have found it will throw off their game and piss them off. In the same sense I over emphasize praise when they make a good shot, especially when you know that you have the hole. I will also become very silent when they are on a roll in hopes that they will have more time to think about their shots.

Jw... I've got a few ties coming up that I have to play. Are there any rules about when you have to play them? I've arranged one match in the preliminary round, which i'm playing a week tomorrow. I've arranged a first round match (after prelimenaries) a week on Sunday. Are you allowed to play a first round match before the preliminaries are completed? Or do you have to wait until everyone has played in the preliminaries?

E.G. If there are 4 quarter final matches to be played, Player A vs. B, Player C vs. D, Player E vs. F and Player G vs. H. If Players F and H get through before the other two matches are played, are F and H able to play in the semis before the quarter finals are completed?

If that made any sense...

But I kinda disagree with RBB, agree with loop's take on it. Attempting to mess with your opponents head goes against the spirit of the game.
If you took an airhorn and blasted it off several times before the round and then took the horn out of your bag every time the guy was about to putt (but didn't sound it off just held it) I dont know if you would technically be breaking the rules but you could surely mess with his head. Obviously you wouldnt do this as it is so obviously a display of poor sportsmanship.
So is messing with his head by conceding putts to mess with his game any less unsportsmanlike just because it is subtle and he might not be aware of it?
Beat the dude with your play, not by playing with his head.
I just see it as part of the game, one that I wouldn't be surprised my opponent did the same, concede me a putt I leave short, and make me putts ones that I run past the hole.

OTOH, I wouldn't expect him to use an airhorn just before I shoot.

So that's my way of saying I think it's well within the spirit of competition, one which could be used against me, and in fact I'd be a bit dismayed if my opponent didn't try that.

When your opponent does all these things, don't let it bother you. Play golf, your way.

When someone concedes me a putt, I pick the ball up and go on to the next hole. When someone makes me putt out, I make the putt and then pick my ball out of the hole and go on to the next hole. Makes little difference to me and a world of difference to them. Being a great putter from 5 feet in drives match play opponents crazy.

putting is gonna be key here. I'll see if I get any help from the boomerang contraption.

Just so I'm clear, conceding the putt is still a stroke, right?

guy is on in 2, putt comes up 6 inches short (3) I concede the next putt for a 4, correct?

I played the 1st round of the Club Championship (Junior) at my club today. It's off scratch, and I was playing a guy off 24 (i'm 25). I won 7&5. I also played in the Round Robin, and beat my group's favourite. Both of these were played within a round in a medal, which I won with a nett 2 under par.

Andy: Yeah... The wedge is great. It helped me to a par at 18... If i'd got a bogey, i'd have lost on countback.

Bravo: Thanks! I only lost 1 hole, and was 3 up after 3 and 5 up after 6.
