Your least putts in a round

Since the clubs distances have come up a few times and I have not seen this one I am wondering, what is the least and most numbers of putts in a round for you guys. Also throw out your average putts per round.

Least # of putts for me is 35, most so far is 48, and my average is 41.

20-something... I chipped in twice and chipped really close quite a lot... My putting wasn't anything special... My chipping was amazing!

  4. Believe it or not, I had 19 puts one round. I was ON! But the most I've ever had was 35, wich really annoyed me.

  5. My low was like 28 I believe. I avg. 1.9 putts per hole. There is a big difference in putts per round and putts per GIR. I only hit 5 or 6 per round on a good day. Obviously if you are chipping well low 20's is acheivable. If you have 20 and were actually hitting GIR's, congratulations, you just shot the course record. The best on tour only avg. 1.7 per hole but they are not lining up #2 for a double too often.

In the last 3 years, my lowest is 25, based on my Intelligolf tracking software. Although that has only been since I moved up here about 3 years ago. My average at one time at my old place over the span of several months was 25-26. I believe I did have a 19 one round about 4-5 years ago, which included a 7 on the back 9. Certainly something I would remember more now, although at the time I did have quite a few rounds right around 20. I forgot how easy my old green were until just recently, having played there twice in the last month. Had a 27 both times, and usually my putting is lower because of familiarity with the greens I play, as I play the same courses alot. They just do not have a ton of break on most of those greens.

I should mention that I play by the rule that if the ball is on the fringe, or anywhere that I am not permitted to pick it up, it is not a putt even if I use a putter. In the same since, it is not a GIR if it is on the Fringe.

The way I have been hitting my clubs the last 3 years, if it were not for my chipping and putting, I likely would have given up the game and gone back to soccer.

It really doesn't surprise me that I have a better putting average than quite a few people. I am not sure I would credit my putting any more than my chipping. As someone who plays off a 21 currently, I only hit 15% of the GIR. So I get more practice at chipping. My current putting average is 29-31. I would imagine if I hit 9 greens in a round, as opposed to less than 3 I would imagine my average would be closer to 35. Although I do have good speed, and usually leave the ball to withing a foot or two on chips and 1st putts, and only average 2 x 3 putts per round. I still average just slightly less than 2 putts per GIR, probably a majority of my one putts are a result of a chip.

It is actually kind of embarrassing at times. I had 27 putts yesterday, shot a 97 on a par 68. That would account to 2 over par not counting my putts. Although the last couple weeks have been kind of rough. 2 weeks ago I shot 85 and had 31 putts on a par 70. For the most part, my better rounds have come with higher than average putting, more reason to believe having a higher putting average would not necessarily be a bad thing for me, and GIR's are my main issue.

Man I WAS happy with that 35 and now having seen what some of you guys are posting I have concluded I full on suck at putting. Need to really work on that.

Dave, 35 is a good #. That means an avg. of less than 2 putts per hole. As you work on chipping them closer that # will drop. Then as you get better with the irons and start hitting greens it will go back up. Just work on hitting your spots with the chips and controlling your speed with the putts. BTW- I have an instruction site I will dig up for you with a free video lesson on iron striking. It's really good and helped me a ton.

I have no idea. However, as many of you have indicated, number of putts can be misleading.

However, your ratio of GIR vs number of putts would give you a better indication of where your game is.

Anyone can miss the green, chip it close and make a putt on just about every hole. 18 putts in a round isn't crazy. But, it's no idication of where your game is.
