Wedge of choice?

which is your favourite Wedge when on the edge of the green?

id say the pitching wedge would be a bit more handy for an elevated green but for average height greens the Lob wedge would be more ideal (for me anyway), I also have come to the understanding that some favour their sand wedge (not to be mistake with a sandwich) even if they arnt trying to idolise their hero David Hasselhoff in the sand.

which is your WOC (wedge of choice)?

Around the greens the SW is what I reach for however from 100 and in it is the GW that does the trick. Ever since I picked up a GW a couple of years ago I don't think of my PW as another wedge too much; it has become just another iron that I play.

I am starting to subscribe to this philosophy. I picked up a 52 degree wedge and I really like the way it plays. That extra three degrees gives me more feel. I can spin it much easier and it plays fluffy lies better than a SW. I tend to hit to high on the face with a SW sometimes.

It all depends on lie and how much green there is to work with.

52 Degree Gap Wedge. Not listed in poll, consider this a write in candidate.

Unless I have an unusual lie or the green is extremely undulated or slow, I will normally play the GW.

I second that. By far my most used wedge. Quite possibly more than my other 3 combined, and my primary chipping wedge.

Surely there should be an option for "other" that would take in 'Gap', 'Approach', or Ben Hogan's 'E-wedge' (what is this, by the way ?!)

I use this by far the most in and around the green for said shot. Off the back foot, weight forward, keeping hands and wrists firm and keeping the hands in front of the shot all the way through. Also adopt a slight out to in swing-path to increase 'check'. have a reputation amongst my golfing colleages for playing this shot very well, I am very proud to say.

I can not tell you for sure, but I heard the "E" stood for "Equalizor" or "Equalizing" Wedge. It equalizes the gap between the PW and SW.

Right. Cheers for clearing that up, fella. Certainly sounds about right. I have been asked what it stood for on many occasions now....
