You're beating me - I am 2.5, so effectively I need to get cut on Captain's Day on Saturday to avoid being off 3 from the beginning of July.

Thankfully it is Stableford, so 37 points or better should keep me at 2 for next month at least. The 6:30am start is the only problem, right enough. I am due to be the first person to Tee-off, too. It is hard trying to par the first 2/3 holes at that time in the morning, especially as I will be drowsy with the medication I have to take at the moment. Still, am confident I can produce and win the beautiful decanter that is to be awarded to the person with the best Gross....

Well I am off to the driving range ce soir to prepare myself for this weekend's Captain's Day on Sat., and Barton Shield Foursomes on Sunday against All-Ireland top opposition on Sunday (yikes!)

Have a north-westerly wind on Saturday, so am confident of steering my ball away from the bushes on the right on the first hole

Have my eye on the glass decanter for the Best Gross Prize, and another eye on YOU, Dave.....

Captain's Day Extravaganza

OK, tomorrow am is our Club's Captain's Day, probably the biggest tourney of the year. Andy tees off at 6.30am in the first 4 ball of the day and in the 2nd fourball, your's truly will be attacking the course at 6.37am.

Who can predict the scores?

Some variables:
  • Weather looks decent, with a light breeze. The course has taken on a lot of rain over the last week. It was getting very firey before that so it should be in perfect condition.
  • Andy is hitting the ball like a professional right now, but not scoring very well
  • He is very grumpy in the morning, (if he actually makes it out of his bed!! LOL!!)
  • I am playing very inconsistently with a 73 last Friday at Royal Belfast followed by an 88 last Saturday at Portstewart!!
  • I got me a Tour Edge Exotics!! Trying it out today. It it dials in quickly I will be hitting it tomorrow. Otherwise I will stick with the 983K.
  • I may have discovered a major major breakthough with my putting!

I will put myself down for a cool 39 points.
Andy, may be lucky and hit 36!
Anyone else want to play this game?

Dave. I'll put you down for a couple of 75s in your efforts across the water.

The master is an unknown quantity at this point
It is our captain’s day as well tomorrow, teeing off at 4pm, I'm very sore this morning, but should be able to get around tomorrow.

I couldn't imagine ever swinging a club at 6.30am never mind playing a round.

Current state of the course

- Got very hard and bouncy last week but rain the past few days has made the course perfect.

- Greens are Medium not soft that you can throw it right to the pin but not too hard that you have to land it short of the green.

- Rough has been grown up a bit if you’re more than 170 out and have a poor lie wedging out is the best play.

- Bunkers are the worse part of the course, very little sand and the sand is thick.

My got rated as one of top course in the area and will hold the Ulster boys and youths in 2009. My last year of the youths should have a good chance of winning it.

I predict 36 points for me with a bogey par bogey finish.
