42 effin putts....AGGGGHHHHH

So Saturday rolled around, our Captain's Day. To make a long story short, I hit the ball great but putted like a hacker. I had one single green putt from 2 feet and I then 2 and 3 putted the rest. In fact I actually putted off a green at one point leaving a 40 yard chip back up to the green!!! I put it to 3 ft and then promptly missed the putt for my bogey.

Don't get me wrong, Saturday was a great day. The sun shone, I played with some great guys, I hit the ball great off the tee, but man, this flat stick business is really starting to get to me. It's really upsetting.

I lost confidence with the pace, and then started leaving 15ft. putts 10ft past of 5 ft short and then missing the returns. 7 x3 putts, including 3 from the last 4 holes, all from no real distance!! I finished with 29 points. Even with a semi average putter i could have had 39 points!

Funny thing is I played on Sunday at a different couse and putted much better, not great but only had 2 x 3 putts and several single putts.

I know it's all in the head, but it is very depressing.

(btw I count putts just off the fringe, not technically Tour Stats, but nonetheless using the putter.)

I had 39 points on our captains day I bogeyed 17 though from know where, I had 33 putts which is good for me, I hit 13 greens in Reg and missed only 3 fairways, the driver was really hot the irons where solid, though my pitching really let me down on the holes that I did miss the greens.

I missed out on 3rd place on the countback.

I had to laugh. Our scores on Captain's Day were outstanding!!! 45 points won, with a smattering on 43 and 42 points.

In fairness the conditions were as benign as it gets. But to win I would have needed to have shot -4 (68) which is never going to happen, or maybe some day it will!!!!

Good luck to these guys who bring in these scores!!

Yea 39 points didn't even get me thrid in my section (section 1 +-0 handicaps)

44 points won ours with 42 runner up.

41 points roughly won all the sections with 40's and 39's for third.

The conditions where perfect. I wont even get cut for my score because they never cut people on captains day at my club which is annoying.

It was a good day out, and there is always next year and you might even have 32 putss next year IG.

You know how Andy got on, he seemed to prepearing a lot for captains day and was confident of returning a good score?

No good. I think the reason was that his 4 ball took 5 hours to get round, despite being first out at 6.30am. They managed to hold up the entire course, and refused to let a 3 ball behind them through (ie our group!!) Just as well it was a nice day!!

HAHA. 5 hours being first out that's crazy. At 6.45am the first 4 ball at our club gets round in 3 hours every week without fail. The course usually starts to slow up around 12 because the ones at 9am and 10am are slow.

I have been struggling with this for quite some time now myself. I like my new 2 Ball putter and it is helping on the short putts quite a bit.

We have had a streak of very hot weather here - about 10 degrees warmer than normal while at the same time - we've had very little meaningful rainfall in the past two months. We're in a full blown drought...So our superintendent is keeping the greens up and long. They aren't shaggy by any means and putt very true but they are slooooow. I putted for about 20 minutes before teeing off on Sunday am and still three putted the first two...it is really frustrating when you hit a GIR and come away with bogey....

You were never / rarely right behind us for us to let you through !!! The only time I can think of letting you through would have been when we were looking for Jimmy's ball on 14, so technically you should be ridiculed for being a 3-ball who was rarely right up our holes like you should be !!

Hey I had around 39 or 40 putts in a qualifier. I still shot 82 though. With a decent putter I would have been at least 77. I three putted 5 greens.
