I'm gonna do it..........................

After 25 years I am gonna do it

Fit my own grips, due to the fact I go through 4 sets a year, and my wedge and seven iron need gripping every month.

Whats the best chemical to use? White spirit, paint thinners, what?

Do NOT use thinner. It's definitely not the answer.

Put out the 6 bucks for grip solvent. In fact, for like 20 bucks, you can get solvent, tape and blades from Golfsmith. Totally worth it.

I remember someone using thinner for their grips and the grips wearing from the inside out. That's outstanding.

... and remember you can reuse the solvent. I spent about $5 on a small bottle originally and after doing about 20+ clubs all together I still have a little left. I just bought a bottle 3 times the size (32 oz.) for I think $8. I figure for that little of a price I can do my clubs 3-4 times. Not sure the price of Paint thinner, but I can't imagine it is much cheaper after all is said and done.

Good choice on doing your own, I thought it would be a pain in the @$$ and after the first 2-3 I thought it was a mistake until I got used too it, but now it only takes about 2-3 minutes to do a club not counting peeling off the tape. I will never have anyone grip my clubs again. They usually were too lazy to peel off the old tape.

I used full cords, lasted 3 months but ripped my hands to shreads, New Decades, lasted one month,(awful grip),standard Crosslines, one month,Dual Densities,6 weeks,Sofcords 2 months and now,I think I have found a great grip that offers a great combo of reliability, feel and grip, the Dual Durometer.

I practice 4 days a week, about 100 wedges plus 50 or so 7 irons and a few drives/3 irons.the above time is for the wedge,7,3 and driver only, obviously the rest of the clubs will last a full season, but I always swop them all if I change a grip style, which I have been doing simply to try them all out.

but really thats an indulgence and i've decided to stick with Dual Densities on the woods, and Dual Durometers on the irons (they really are superb)

I don't wear a glove

Although I ain't seen any about anywhere here, I really dig those Lamkin black grips. Not sure of the exact name, but they are very, very similar to Golf Pride's T.Velvet. A guy in a group I was caddying for had them on all his clubs and I really liked 'em. Nice n' soft n' tacky..

I, however, have Tour Velvets on most of my sticks, and Multi Compounds on a couple of wedges and my driver and Fairway wood. Think I prefer the T.Velvets, right enough. Winn AVS grip on the putter which is sweet, but fair sh1t in the wet, though. .

I use Tour Velvets, but my spare set have half cords. I've found thet when they start getting slick a really good scrubbing makes them easier to hold.
