Long Drive Contest

I am entered into a local Long Drive contest on August 24th. Top prize is a whopping 300 bucks, so I can almost buy a new driver with that.

BTW, last years winner only poked it 319, pretty sorry for a winning drive.

Won a new driver (piece of crap) for the longest drive at a golf outing a couple of years ago. Still one of my best memories of something I've done right.

I thought about entering one of the qualifiers once, until I saw how pitiful my drives looked compared to the big hitters. I thought I would get a break being in the over 50 group. WRONG! 320 yards was the over 50 winning drive. I could only get that if I used a howitzer.

324 won the TM demo day long drive here. All age groups. That is why it is difficult to imagine drives much longer without a significant change in elevation or wind.

I can do this, I am worried the competition mught get a little stiffer this year. The Long Drive is a pre tournement competition and last year it was limited to people playing in the tournement, this year they are opening the door to all comers. 25 bucks gets you 3 balls to qualify. Top ten drives move on to the second round and three more balls.

I am not sure what the ball will be at this one, if it were at my regular course it would be Nike, but the contest is at a course I have never been to. My regular course doesn't sell anything that is not Nike. Nike Balls, Clubs, Shoes, Shirts, Hat and Shorts. The Pro shop might as well have a swoosh on the door.

Dave, I don't doubt your ability, It just amazes me how many people boast as though they AVERAGE somewhere near 300 yd drives when a distance only slightly over that is winning local long drives. I'm not sure about others but ours was confined to a relatively narrow fairway, some were longer, but didn't count.

I don't average 300, average would include the occasional 100 yard dribbler mishit where I top it, and the OB slice that seems to come out every 7th time I drive the ball. On the other hand I can hit a nice 300+ yard drive at least 1 out of 3 tries. Thats all I have to do in this thing to stay in for the second round. I can beat last years winning drive, I am just not real sure it will be that easy this year. As far as how wide the landing area is, its supposed to be 50 yards, 25 yards either way from center.
