Thumbs down Front shoulder cracking on most full swings.

Just read through Hogans Five Lessons.. The swing seems very repatable, and still gives good distance and accuracy, aswell as works good with some chip shots (for me anyways).

Problem is that on most full swings my front shoulder (right shoulder, I'm a leftie) Cracks on almost all my full swings, and it's a fairly loud crack, it doesn't hurt but it's loud and I dont know if it's good for me. I'm in pretty healthy shape and am only 24... But that's a shitty crack.. I never used to keep my front arm as straight on my back swing, and I dont think I was really getting a full shoulder turn although flexibility isn't a big issue... But with the new swing my shoulder is cracking!, Mabye I'm letting my left elbow get to far away from my body on my backswing?. Some advice please. .

Thanks.
Chris.

I wouldn't be nice if you dislocate your shoulder would it?
If you keep cracking your front shoulder, you may get chronic subluxation, and it'll be easier for your shoulder to dislocate. That would be really bad.
You may want to muscle your shoulder and upper back muscles.

I would go to a Sports Medicine Clinic in a heartbeat. They might have a Physical Therapist examine you and he/she could tell you what the issue was.

It can't be a good thing that you have this sound coming from your shoulder vs your clubhead...

Just think of it as being Hoganesque: Hogan had calcium deposits removed from his shoulder joints a few times.

He was a teeny bit obsessed, however.

Mate; I am suffering from the exact same thing. Mine doesn;t hurt, but I wait for it in the swing, and it really disrupts me, causing me to drop shots as I am waiting for the crack to sound, and not focussing on the task at hand. Always seems to reoccur when I have important matches coming up; ie. now !! Not good.

It is my left shoulder, btw; I am a right-handed player. Most infuriating

There has been a history of arthritis / oesoporosis (2 X sp.) in my family, so that is what I reckon my case is

at least someone else has the same problem... it doesn't hurt, but it is kinda gross... I dont know when I'll get a chance to see someone... but hopefuly it will just go away when I start getting more used to the swing.

Yeah, you might want to see your doctor and tell him about it. He might recommend that you see a therapist, or he might give you ideas on ways to strenghten the musculature involved with the shoulder. The shoulder is a rather complex joint, with a wide variety of motion, which means there is no one exercise to help it. It takes a variety of exercises to improve the flexibility and strength of all the muscles around the joint.

Heck, I'd even guess that if you're going with Hogan's 5 Lessons, it's even possible for something that goes down to your lower back and the muscles down there. If those muscles are tight, you could get some pulling down on the one side of your shoulder, and while your left arm is try to pull the shoulder the other way, it's enough to make a pop.

Wonder if that'd be anything like cracking knuckles in the fingers?
