Taking Care of Clubs

What is the ideal way to keep your clubs in good shape? Specifically, what is a good way to clean them off after some golf?

I use windex, a scrub brush, and a cleaning rag.

I wipe them down with a wet towel after every shot, but at home I use a toothbrush and dishsoap. After cleaning I use the damp towel on the grips. Nothing special, but I always get compliments on my clubs.

Geez, I'm glad I'm not the only one who takes care of my clubs. Some of my golf buddies give me a hard time for cleaning my clubs and using covers on my irons...

Covers on your irons? That is a little excessive, Tiger

I give them a quick wipe after each shot. Every few weeks I use a scrub brush, hot water and dish soap to clean the grooves. Once or twice a year I use a scrub brush, and hot soapy water on the grips, then rinse with the brush, then my hand and dry them with a towel to restore the tacky feeling.

For the grips, it depends on the grip. The Grip websites tell you what to use. For most grips a brush and soapy water is what they recommend. Softer grips like some of the Winn's do not recommend using a brush as it can damage the grip. I think they recommend just a damp towel.

Iron covers are good to protect forged clubs from getting dinged, but I have never used forged irons. Personally, I care for my clubs but they get dinged on the course anyways, so I just consider it "Battle Scars". For graphite shafts on the woods it is a good idea to get decent full length covers to protect the shafts. It amazes me that more and more clubmakers use headcovers that do not protect the shaft that well.

I have a wire brush (looks like a toothbrush) on my bag I "gently" clean the grooves with if they get plugged. Do the soap and water thing in the sink with the brush a couple times a summer also and before storing for the winter. Don't like headcovers on my irons. Too big a pain taking on and off.

I did notice on my Ping G5's that they seem to "attract" dirt much more then my old Cleveland VAS. I think it's the kind of "brushed" tacky finish they have that makes the dirt really stay on. Any other Ping players notice this or am I getting more senile.

Granted the headcovers are a bit of a pain but I hate the sound of my new forged Mizunos getting rattled and beat in the back of my cart...

I use dawn dishsoap and water, I even carry an old windex bottle full of it when I am out on the course. I use windex on them after the round, my wedges only get the dishsoap and water as I hit them a lot more and get cleaned 4 or 5 times a week.

I do find this with my i3's. dirt just seems to stay on them better than my old chromed set. Makes sense that it would be the texture of the finish.

I use a nylon brush during the round, maybe a full clean with soap and water once or twice a year.

I play G2s and noticed the same thing - they are what moved me to only use natural wood tees - no paint. It may seem excessive but I'll be the first to admit a case of OCD!

You are not alone.

I certainly notice it to be more of an issue on my i3+ clubs. I switched to natural tees as well, as the white line is a little more difficult to just wipe off. Although I have a tendancy of using broken tees with my irons, so it still happens.
