Hey Buddha, Mickelson still in hot water?

Any more info on his "habit"? How does a guy gamble away a fortune like that?

Why would he walk away from a wife like that too. It makes me think that he might be gay. She is so smokin'.

A family member works at a casino here in town as the Purchasing Manager. He was talking to the games manager who basically summed it up like this:

"If you spend $7, you'll win $3. People just don't understand the math."

Makes sense to me.

No extra info. Just that he's cheated on his wife, has huge gambling debts, and supposedly a check was written directly from Callaway to the casinos.

But this is only part of the news that will be revealed. Sport Illustrated will be the mag breaking the big news. I fished around on the net last night but found nothing.

I fished around this morning also and found nothing. Usually, when there is a rumor - you'll find something somewhere on the Internet about it....

You heard it on the radio? Local show?

The American public is going to go nuts over this. Mickelson is America's favorite golfer at the moment and there is noway I thought he would ever cheat on his wife. The gambling thing I can see, the guy is a sports nut.

First I have heard of this, Hopefuly Phily can overcome his issues. I'd hate to see his family break up and him fall into giant gambling debts and disappear forever.

It was a local dude who just couldn't contain the news. You could tell he had to tell somebody. He works with TGC so he does have some inside channels.

Also, Steve Elkington was on the Jim Rome show the other day and in response to a question about "why do the fans like Phil" he said, "I don't know, it must be that smile or something." He basically eluded to the fact that his colleagues on tour aren't as happy with him.

It sounds like his image is going Kobe pretty soon.

I know I said this yesterday but I just don't get why Callaway would want him knowing all this. Can a corporation of this size be so naive as to believe this news wouldn't surface.

Goodbye wife, goodbye family, goodbye endrosements. Dumbass.

There is a PGA Tour pro named Steve Lowery from Birmingham. He's kind of a journeyman who has never won big - but has been on the Tour for about 15-20 years, always winning enough to keep his card, etc.

He got a divorce 2-3 years ago. No biggie. It's just that his divorce lawyer plays with me in my Sunday group. This guy is a very good lawyer that never discusses his clients directly but will tell good stories around things he hears.

He told us that Lowery and many of the players on the Tour think Michelson is a big jerk. The inflated head, extremely Vain...he claims that Mickelson puts a smile on his face all the time out of sheer vanity. He thinks it makes him look good.

This lawyer also represented Charles Barkley in a couple of his barroom brawls....

I heard Mike Weir doesn't get along with Phil. During the presidents cup when Weir was beating phil in a match in the middle of weir's swing Phil opened a bag a chips which made quite a bit of noise....it is obvious he did it on purpose.

So that's why he has the boobs. Chips!

Phil used to be a pole. He was looking good, spinning those wedges like a mofo. Hot wife, cash and playing for the industry leader. Now, he's fat and vain and a gambler.

Nice flip flop.

Makes me feel nice about my situation. Hot girlfriend, loads of money, playing for the industry leader. Well, 1 outta 3 ain't bad.

Isn't everybody jumping the gun just a bit?

It is still rumour to this stage is it not?

Disappointing to see people turning on Phil - not becuase I like the guy, but because what business is it of ours what he does with his wallet and his libido?

If you're not going to like him, I can think of better reasons:

He is a massive underachiever: someone with that much talent should have 4 or 5 majors in the bag by now. It took him 10 years as a pro to realise that to win at the highest level you need control, not flop shots from the fringe.

That goofy grin that he puts on at the most inopportune times, like just after 3 putting from close range at the 71st at Shinnecock. The last thing I'd want to do is smile!

The fact that he rarely travels outside the US to play a tournament. If the Open championship were not a major he wouldn't go overseas at all. This includes Hawaii, where he doesn't like to go because "the courses don't suit his game with all the wind". All I can say to that is that the best golfers throughout history have been able to adapt their games to suit the conditions. They didn't get to the top by avoiding particular types of courses.

He has no sense of loyalty. I understand this is a business, but to leave Titleist the way he did shows no respect or gratitude for the fact that for 10 years he was being paid above his worth. He was endorsed like a major winner, but never was. Then he finally breaks through and wants to renegotiate for more. Titleist did well to tell him where to go. I can only hope that Callaway have the same approach as Phil and downgrade Phil's contract when he fails to win a major this year!

This of course is just my humble opinion...

Good points Graz...

I should have throttled my comments a bit. I was reporting on "19th hole gossip"...I don't have an opinion one way or the other on the guy. Just reporting that - allegedly - there are many on the Tour that don't fancy the guy.

Probably the same as any workplace.

I'll never forget his back nine at Augusta last year though.

No rumors. I'm not sure when this story will hit, but it'll hit. And from what I understand, it'll be worse than what we've been discussing. Evidently SI is waiting as long as possible so it doesn't have a chance to cool down before the Masters.
