Any Drills For How To Draw The Ball

Hi their, new to the site and was looking for some help.

For along time i was drawing the golf ball beautifully and i was really consistant but now when i hit the ball i either push the ball a mile right or it always tails off the right and if i try and play for it to happen it goes even further right. It would be great for some drills so i can try and get back to my original swing.

Set a cardboard box filled with newspaper, or even old towels, along your target line about eight inches past your ball position. Take slow half-swings, trying to "knife" the box with the toe of the club through impact.

To Draw a ball, I set my feet and shoulders in the direction I want to send the ball bu set the club face in the direction I want to finish. I have the ball forward in the stance(alot more than normal) and swing the club in the path of my shoulders. At impact try to add a little wrist flick and hey ho.. I Draw.

To Fade I do the opposite.....For a straight one, Well I'm still working on that!

When I went to a Callaway demo/fitting the guy showed me a drill to draw. It's worked wonders for me, now I play a draw more often than a fade. Let me try to explain it.
  1. I like to start out by swinging the club at waist height like a baseball swing around my body to groove the wide path.
  2. Set up as you normally would and adress the ball.
  3. Slowly step your rear foot back (horizontal axis) and open the clubface slightly as you do.
  4. Swing around your body and use your forearms to shut the face, throw the toe at the the target through impact.
Don't get discouraged, it took me a while to get it down and it requires good striking. Good luck.

I like to set up as if for a normal shot then simply pull my right foot (for a right handed swing) back and swing like normal. The more I pull my foot back, the more draw. I'm also experimenting with teeing the ball lower than normal to assist in the draw, it seems to make a difference, although I'm not completely confident with it just yet.

Think "Draw" in your head during your practice swing. Then get up and make the same swing. I think you would be suprised how well "thinking draw" will help. However it sux when you think draw and get fade or slice. ........

I think the face should still be square to the target line and aim my feet to where I want the ball to start out...

I cant see getting great draw results by opening your face though... However closing your face some would keep you from having to modify your swing any but it will de-loft the club a bit so ball height will be less.

I think that the one thing I'm actually good at is probobly shaping the ball, but thats just how I do it.. It's probobly wrong though. .

oh yea, one other thing I found when I first started switching from my natural flight (a big ole slice ) to a draw.... Was to make sure I get a FULL shoulder turn.

There are probobly tonnes of ways to hit it well I personally play the ball from the middle of my stance for a draw, and closer to the front for a fade... But again just to make things clear (which I'm sure they arn't). I'm a drunken retard and just felt like replying. .

Chris.

feet point to the right
club face points at the target
swing club where feet are pointing
easy as that

On all shots, the path the clubhead

makes through the ball determines the initial or beginning direction the ball will take. If the club face is square to that path the flight of the ball will be straight from start to finish. This can be a straight pull, a ball straight down the middle, or a straight push. Again, club face is square to the line the clubhead path is taking.

In your case, you are hitting pushed shots that sometimes are going straight out to the right. Your club face is square to that line for the ball to go straight. So you must close your club face which means it will be pointing left, at the target, the direction you want the ball to go at the end of the flight, whatever. IT IS NECESSARY TO AIM THE CLUB FACE TO THE LEFT AND REGRIP (I REPEAT 'REGRIP' ) BEFORE MAKING THE SWING.
If you do not regrip, the club face will not be closed at impact.

Next point is very important. As you look down on the ball, imagine it is divided into quadrants by two lines, the target line and a line perpendicular to the target line. We have said that the club face must be pointing left at impact, BUT ALSO REMEMBER THAT THE CONTACT WITH THE LEFT-POINTING (CLOSED) CLUB FACE HAS TO BE MADE SOMEWHERE ABOVE THE TARGET LINE, OR AT THE UPPER RIGHT QUADRANT. So the toe of the club definitely must lead the heel for this to happen. You will push the ball if contact is made in the lower right quadrant and you might even get a pushed slice.

Final direction of ball flight is determined by club face contact with the ball. As said earlier, if there is square contact, ball flight is straight from start to finish. To have curvature at the end of ball flight, you must hit somewhere in the upper right quadrant for right to left curvature (draw, hook) or hit in the lower right quadrant for left to right curavature (fade, slice.) Such is the geometry of golf.

Remember the quadrant. Remember to regrip. Swing normal and smooth, the draw will happen.

Best of luck to you with your shot shaping. Sincerely, Cypressperch
